Gondor Heavy Chainmail by Avelium! Used for the highest tier of the village recruits.
Does surcoat cover chest plate or is it chain mail? Irl surcoats covered plate armor making it look like mix of chain mail and plate armor, but in reality soldiers would first get plate armor for chest and only later add plates to other places. So this is historically inaccurate armor (which matters for Gondor since they are more based on real life humans).
I don't mind it personally, this kind of "half armor" looks really cool!
Also consider adding white tree or something else at back of the
surcoat. Its definetly not important or anything, i just think it looks little empty right now. And in heat of battle if you just see soldier's back it can be mistaken for black Numeronian.

"Gondor Heavy Chainmail", no chestplate.
This isnt a historical mod, so historical inaccuracies are irrelevant to me. This is Gondor, not Italy. More important to me are designs that balance aesthetic and logic. These troops are meant to be the poorer troops, they have enough to be given mass produced simple armour pieces, but not enough for a custom fit cuirass.
And this will be quite different than the Black Numenorean design, so hopefully no issues there.

i'm not convinced with the shield you should cover it with leather ;)
Low tier troops will use the shield above, higher tier units have leather covered shields. Like you see here:https://www.moddb.com/mods/a-lord-of-the-rings-mod-kingdoms-of-arda/images/lamedon-soldiers#imagebox
The unit above will possibly use the leather shield, but this was a chance to preview the militia shield regardless.

Will the troop recruitment be realistic? I mean it would be cool if we could only recruit the troops that belong to the faction we are playing with for the game to really be as enjoyable as possible
Troop recruitment will be based on relation, so in the beginning you will only be able to recruit your faction and close allies. You will be able to recruit allies that are less close, like the Elves as Gondor, but you will have to put in work.
