This is our 3D model for the Feltwell spatha, a sword dated between the 4th and the 5th century, found in Feltwell, Norfolk. The handle is in European wood, sheath in wood and leather and tinned brass. The blade is made by unhardened steel.
It is thought to be the sword of a wealthy Anglian warrior just landed on the coasts of Britain or maybe serving in the Roman army, as it was common for germanic warriors of that era.
Britain is going through a period of turmoil in the second half of the 5th CE: legions have left Britain since a while, Pictish and Scoti raiders are raiding the cities of, respectively, Maxima Caesariensis and the coasts of Britannia Secunda. Moreover, from the sea, many more barbarians from the continent are landing: some are willing to settle peacefully, while others are daring and interested only in carving a place for themselves at the expense of the locals.
