STARDROP ON KICKSTARTER

WE ARE LIVE

I remember when I started working on ElevenEightySeven so many years ago. I'll never forget that time. Times were so different back then. We didn't have the tools we have today to make or even publish games. We had our love for a game and a desire to be just like the developers and make our own games through mods and create stories with our favorite characters, or find ways to come up with our own.

That's how I started. Learning how to make maps in Hammer. Learning how to work with VTFEdit. Meeting other modders and guys just like me. I still talk to a lot of them to this day and have worked with some, Dec Doyle for instance.

And then there's you guys, the community, at ModDB and IndieDB. I owe the community so much for all their kind words over the years. The ones who still come back to the ElevenEightySevens mod page and leave a message. I mean, how much more can you ask that in a time where mods are in a decline and still have people talking about yours.

Why am I talking about that now? well, mainly because I am someone who reflects from time to time on his past and also because I have a need to make it clear that I know mine. I know that I have a lot to thank the community for. ElevenEightySeven did make it to Tenth Place in 2010. I mean to me that's still incredible. :)

Times have changed indeed and I now find myself in a world where I can actually make my own game. Write my own story with my own characters and do things that I could never do before.

It's the same drive that motivates me now as back then. Even more so now than ever before because this time I can truly write from the heart and come up with things without any restrictions.

Enough about me and my past though, it's time for STARDROP to shine. Our kickstarter is LIVE and if you guys have played the demo and want to help out, then now is the best time to do just that.

Thank you for reading !!!

Haha, I know that. I've actually thought about it and decided that this would be the last post. The reason I have been is because I can reach more folks through 1187 that might be interested in STARDROP.

But it has to stop at some point and figured this would be it. Sorry for giving false hopes, won't happen again. :)

Yea, i keep thinking that something is going to happen with 1187, but lately I've realized that its just STARDROP, not that im complaining. I wish though there was a remake or enhancement update or something to make 1187 even better then it is though. The mod is very, very good, but some things just need to be fixed or changed or something. Idk, but what ever happens, I hope things go well with STARDROP and other projects you might bring up in the future! Good luck, and thanks for the things you given to the community! ;3

I have been thinking about 1187 lately. And I am very much leaning towards remaking it into a standalone game but if I do it will be disconnected from Half-Life.

The cool part about this would be that I can do a lot more with the story. I already have a draft in my head about how to make it a standalone experience and I have a feeling it'd be epic.

The core gameplay would remain as close as the mod and most of the characters would return. I'm hoping that through STARDROP I'll be able to continue making more games, and this remake is starting to sound very interesting to me.

It would run on the UE4 engine and I would have full control over everything. This means no one can break the game besides myself.

Obviously it would be a retail game but it would be a full experience. No episodes. But first things first, STARDROP needs to happen before I can think about going back to 1187. I do want to finish the story and I still have the ending in my head.

Well, thanks for the reply. :)

This sounds really cool! So its going to be a different species that are invading? So headcrabs could be some sort of different parasite and-- idk, im just getting all these ideas in my head as i type! X3
Ah well, good to hear you still think about 1187 and stuff! :3

That's the idea, of course I'll get to think about new/different kinds of creatures. The overall tone would be different in a lot of places, yet the same. I'd say it would be a whole lot more fleshed out and more coherent.

For instance I wouldn't have to worry about who the G-man might be, I might even remove him. I can completely change what the vortiguants are, and how everything relates to each other. I would say probably less convoluted and a bit more direct.

I would have to really sit down and think about what I could bring to the table story wise. So some stuff would be remade, other stuff removed and other stuff completely new.

But John will be back, he actually already is back in STARDROP, same character, different incarnation haha but he'd be back.

1187 never really left my mind but my life has changed dramatically since my modding days :)

Obviously the first place I'd announce anything would be here ;)

Good to hear! Will you also think about a multiplayer/co-op mode in this remake? Kinda like what you were going to do with 1187 at the time.

It depends. It was never a part of the main experience and while we had something really cool with the coop aspect it wasn't a concious design choice.

It was mostly just Dec having fun with different game modes and it was actually really a lot of fun, we played it a lot during the development but never been able to put in the time and dedication to release it.

If I was to add coop then it would be something tailored for it, a separate chapter where the gameplay is specifically designed for it which is something I was exploring at the time and had plans for
