I don't think I'll ever go back to this mod.

There's no such key in this port.

I was thinking about that, but since Spear is just a single mission, I dropped that idea.

No. Just to cite the reason from a post I recently wrote...

"Just because it's popular doesn't mean it should be the port of choice when it comes to some of the features, you see, scripting does have its boundaries.

Besides, I see no reason to release an ECWolf port, since the SDL port can already do every feature of why people tend to use ECWolf for, you've got an automap, modern controls and aspect ratio options (which isn't fully supported yet)."

It's because of how segmented the Spear levels are.

Tunnels
Dungeons
Castle

So, if you pick episode 3, you'll start the game on Floor 11.

Because they are pretty awful in quality, to me they feel like those early mods that were sold for money that did nothing, but replace graphics and maps, and it also would be way too much work to integrate every inch of them than what it's worth.
Maybe in the far distant future, but it's pretty unlikely that I will ever touch them.

Can't tell for sure, so I'll stick with the phrase that works all the time.
It comes when it's done.

Try creating a .BAT file with these command lines:
"WOLF3D --resf 1920 1080"

SDL mods are not like EC/LZWolf stuff, most are playable right after you download them. You do not need to download Wolf4SDL and the DLL files and don't need to include the original files unless the readme tells you to include some of them in order to play that mod, which is in this case, none of it is a requirement.

So in short, just run the .EXE you find in the SDL2 directory. If you want to unlock the original 6 episodes, just copy gamemaps.wl6 and maphead.wl6 into this directory.

Depends. Normally the dos version uses 320x200 resolution only, SDL2 version can do that too, but the defeault for the SDL versions is 640x400, but you can go up to 1920x1080 or probably even higher with some command line trickery in a batch file, not sure if it can do 4K though.

One of the biggest plans at the moment for the SDL version would be having an in-game settings to change the resolution without doing the aforementioned command line trick.

The sole purpose of this was to make DOS mods & DOS modding more relevant and alive these days again since it pretty much died out in the past years, but the vast majority of the community did not care about that at all, so I guess it was pretty much a failed attempt the moment the project started.

Alright here, download this, put it in either the SDL or the SDL2 folder whichever you are using and then launch this file.

You need Edit and not Properties, that's where you type "WOLF3D --resf 1920 1080" (without the quotation marks)

The Print Screen button on your keyboard should do the job, just make sure you have a third party app like Paint or photoshop where you can paste that image in, or at least, that's the way I do it.

Not much talk going on there about the mod, and I'm not sure since when LZWolf or ECWolf became the standard for mods.

If in the far distant future someone from the community capable enough to maintain the Wolf4SDL port with the skills needed to implement such features, then yes.

It would be playable in DOS if it's not for a faulty sprite drawing routine within the source code.

If you don't want to deal with editing the source code yourself to fix this issue, try aligning the second boss' last death frame more to the center to avoid such overflows and make the game kill itself with a divide error.

Read this post for more information about this bug: Dhw.wolfenstein3d.com

EDIT: There! Finished the mod in DosBox by avoiding eye contact with the second boss' corpse.

Spear integration was never planned.

Yes, there are new cheat codes and some of the original cheat codes are a bit tweaked.

The mod is full-package, you download it then you can play it immediately, you only need dosbox in case you wanna play the dos version.

I am not exactly sure what you were trying to do.

You download the mod, open SDL2 folder then launch WOLF3D.exe, that's all.

If you encounter weird issues with sounds, or your rig is older then I recommend you to use the exe that is in the SDL folder instead.

ECWolf is only considered to be the best because it has modern controls support, widescreen support and automap. In a modder's perspective it is because of the easy scripting stuff for people who can't be bothered to learn a coding language which is a pretty neat thing tho, but because of that reason it's pretty limiting of what you can do with it and you have to wait for the port's maintainer to include a feature you want to use. When it comes to the vanilla-feel, how close it is to the original, ECWolf is definitely far away from that, which I am not a huge fan of.

When it comes to SDL or DOS modding, there's no impossible, the only thing that can stop you is your own skill at programming, but it sure grants you more freedom and possibilities. Some modders should take some hint tho to include modern controls support in their mods because it isn't that hard, SDL can do widescreen support at some extent and the latest version of Wolf4SDL contains an automap.

So as I said earlier in this thread, making an ECWolf port would be a waste of time since both the DOS and SDL versions has proper modern controls support, once again, SDL can do widescreen support at some point, and the mod contains an automap and the mod might have some features that is currently impossible to implement with ECWolf's scripting so that wouldn't be an accurate version which is a step-back too.
