You are looking at around 5gb for the base game, and about 550mb for these tools. Safe to say 6gb for the game and the mod tools.

Fix: Get rid of RemasteredGlobalSettings from the savegames folder. Then unsync BF2 from Steam Cloud to keep Steam from reloading that into your savegames folder.
Found by Antex on steam.

Been having some trouble in my mod guide:

Steamcommunity.com

There have been people stating with no overlay on, they still get black screen glitches. Seem to be common on loading screens. I have not been able to replicate this glitch, and I have seen responses before about overlays from Masterchief!, but if there is any other resolution to these, that would be very helpful. Not entirely sure what is causing this, but I am told this happens after installing this installer mod.

You have to download that file, then extract it with a file extractor such as winrar, 7zip or even winzip. Don't know if this comment even helps being so late, but maybe it will.

This is actually just the game, the hotfix messed with basically everything. On the plus side, I am expecting an eventual update to a lot of mods like this one, but I have no idea how long it will take. For now, we have to deal with a somewhat broken game.

For anyone wondering, this happens with Windows 10 1803 and after. There is a quick solution. Fist, find your game directory and follow my file path
\data_[MY MAP NAME]\_BUILD\Common\munge.bat
After you find this file, edit it in a text editor.
Find a line of code that says:
more "%%i" >> "%TempDir%\%%~ni%%~xi"
Highlight this code and replace it with this:
more /E "%%i" >> "%TempDir%\%%~ni%%~xi"
I have no idea if this fix effects Windows 7 in any way or not, but it does fix the issue with Windows 10. Hope this helps someone down the line.

I don't say this about much, and as old as this game is I don't praise the graphics like I used to given today's standard. But that's hot. So crisp and clean. Clear and nice. Old memories given an updated look. Much needed. And appreciated.

Discord/Steam overlay. DarthSith is right there. Also, from what I gathered, a new version of the radeon graphics driver COULD effect that. I DID NOT TEST THAT MYSELF! It is only a rumor I have heard! I can not confirm personally that Radeon graphics drivers cause that. Radeon drivers tend do cause issues in older games, so it is possible. It is more likely to be Discord/Steam overlay though.

Never encountered that issue. IDK if the GOG servers work, I am guessing they do but I could be wrong. The Steam servers always work just fine for me. Possibly try the with and without the unofficial patch 1.3 r130 (or higher if there is a higher version like r131. I have been out of the modding loop a bit).

Some mods you need to extract (using like winrar or 7zip or something) then manually put them in the addon folder. Not sure which mod you want, but hopefully that kinda helped.

Get to your game directory (battlefrontll.exe) then there should be folder called "addon" (leave out the quotes) at the very top of the list. If there is not one there, make one. After you unzip the file (using either 7zip or winrar is recommended) you should have a file that is 3 letters. For example "ABC". Just copy and paste that folder into the "addon" folder. It should work from there. Keep in mind You almost always need the unofficial patch 1.3 r130 or higher to be installed. After you install the unofficial patch, it wont show that it is updated in the top corner it will still say the game is at "version 1.1" even though it is not.

Most, if not, all mods require the unofficial patch. Look for unofficial patch 1.3 r130 or higher.

TigerEye6 - - 32 comments @ How to install!

late reply, I know, but in the Star Wars Battlefront II folder, go into the folder that says GameData.
In there, you should find a folder called "addon" (without the ""s of course). If not, then make a new folder and name it addon . Then, with most maps/map packs, you just unzip the file and drop the 3 capital letter named folders in there. If it is a mod like Improved Sides, then when you unzip the file you downloaded, there should be a readme explaining the installation process a bit further.

little harder. in the mod tools there is a way to open the vanilla maps and sides though. There is a process to unziping LVL files, but most people dont mention it because they dont want their mods to get stolen by someone who just undid the LVL file. Idk if I even explained it properly, but thats how I understand it.

TigerEye6 - - 32 comments @ Mod Concept Ideas

Interesting concepts (also a pain in the *** to open that .pub file) but so far, this doesn't actually seem too crazy. Very optimistic, yes, but that is not a bad thing considering some mod makers have spent a literal decade doing stuff like this. So first, I recommend a website called gametoast.com for help with certain issues while you mod. Next, on ModDB, search "modders" (without parenthesis) in the SWBF2 files as well as addons. Maybe you dont have to take these models and use them for yourself, but you can use the models to teach yourself generally where they go and how they work (Ahsoka Tano by Netmarble Games, and Teancum is recommended because it is a little easier to understand where to put the files). Next, use outside tools. Some helpful outside tools for modeling, etc., etc.:

Xnview
Noesis
Blender
Softimage XSI Mod Tool
XSI ZE Tools

There are more, so do not limit yourself to strictly these ones. Next, I know this one is a little weird, but try to be on different websites more. Steam discussions are sometimes helpful, Youtube and so are a few others. If you limit yourself to 1 website it limits how many people will actually help. For the third thing, just remember maps can be HUGE just by accident. I have been modding 1 map for a while, and I made it very big by accident, and it took a while to figure out how to get things to work properly without letting the game look awful. And lastly, I consider myself a beginner modder and I am slowly moving to where I am more comfortable about making meshs and things, so if you really need some help I would be willing to help with what I can, but I make no promises like "I can totally get all of this done" or anything, and I do have some responsibilities, so I can't chit chat 24/7. Also the whole, "Im never meeting you in person (honestly I doubt we would even call on Discord or anything), Im not liable for you messing anything up (files, games, etc., etc.)" you know, basically the whole, "stranger danger" and "I am not responsible for your mistakes" BS.

TigerEye6 - - 32 comments @ D-Day map

Fun map actually, I love the sniping, but as of right now, I am just going to assume it is being tested because there are some small issues with the look of everything. Maybe that sounds very negative, I don't mean it to be, I do like it, I am just saying there is more to be done. A big issue is render distance, which is kind of balanced out by the water (nice touch actually). One thing I do recommend is using fog to help kind of hide the render distance. I accidentally made my map too big and I fixed a lot of it with fog settings (if you need help it is in the data_"3 letters"\world\"3 letters"\world1 . It is just in a file called "3 letters".sky and you can change it with notepad (you probably already know how to do this, but that was just in case). Here is what my first few lines look like (I dont remember when but I changed the range to fit better):
Enable(1);
FogColor(95,111,126);
FogRange(12.5, 12.5);

Beautiful! Love the look of all of this! I believe all of the issues were covered. Mostly the 1st Person cockpits, hands not actually holding weapons, weapons inside hands, little things like that. For the most part though, this mod is spot on! A few touch ups should fix this mod, but honestly, what you have done as of right now (what is released), fantastic! (Its awesome BC it works on the PS2 version of the game too! I didn't actually think it would work and I kind of thought I would mess up my disc modding it too so I am impressed)

Hate modders like you! You just screw with some color satiation, making little to no actual change and totally trash the look of the game and then sit there like "iM a PrO MoDdEr"

Here is the deal. When I started modding BF2, I was totally lost. Then I found out this very helpful thing most modders do just to be nice to us newbies. When you download and unzip the file, there is often times a txt document that has directions. Most mods go into an addon folder. It for example, C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData
This is not my exact directory, but close enough. In the GameData folder, there may be an addon folder. If not make a new folder and name it "addon" without the quotations. Most of the time, downloading mods will be putting folders in there. I recommend the mod Improved Sides, but that is a little different of a download. I believe it has directions though so thats a good example one of what to start with.

I like this, but the walls just dont work for me on most of the buildings. They are just... off somehow. like they are too plain, too "flat". Bricks seemed to have turned to drywall. Not a good look in my opinion. Not saying it is bad, just not what I was looking for.

I need some help here. I have been modding for a while now and figured I could figure this out myself, but I have had no luck. When I see my map on the list, it will have % signs and the 3 letter name I gave it. When playing, the loading screen gives 2 "Null"s, one for the tip and one almost in the middle of the screen(talk about weird). The kills in the top left all just say "Null" as well, but they are still colored. The names of the units, the weapons they use, and even the heroes all have names that do not work, occasionally the heroes names don't even show up. I downloaded the munge editor fix, and I believe I have set it up correctly. I have the 1.3 patch installed (and I tried it without the patch too). I am actually stuck on this one. Any help at all with this issue would be much appreciated.

Gotta say, love it. Characters, models, maps, all of it! Accept, I have 2 issues with it. 1: It is unbelievably hard. So hard, I played on one of the maps, with cheats, and lost. And issue 2, heroes don't block. I mean, if you are trained as a jedi and cant block lasers being fired at you? That's a little weird to me. Anyways, great mod, I really enjoy it so far, lots of fun seeing new heroes and villains, and there are times I actually enjoy the difficulty too.
