I think it is about time for me to try something else other than only texturing. This here is a level concept that will be in my first map, featuring an intense battle between MEC and USMC forces on US soil somewhere in New Mexico.
Btw if you are thinking Half-Life by looking at this picture, you are entirely correct about where I got this concept from. ^^
As always, ideas and suggestions are welcome! :)
Hey! Well I'm leaning towards something like "Red Gorge". Basically this map will be made in the same style of how DICE had made their maps. This will have vehicles from the Armored Fury booster pack and like the description says, it will take place in America.
So far that is the idea. More screenshots will come soon. :)
Reminds me of the Lucky Luke comic books I used to read when I was a child.
An easter egg kit with a fedora and revolvers would be cool :D
Good idea, but having the revolvers would produce more work lol. But who knows, maybe this can be considered. :)
Looks somewhat like Arizona...
Yes, but this takes place in New Mexico where the landscapes are similar. ^^
Looks fantastic Obscure! I really like the texture quality/look, very fresh and original. Just don't forget the groundpounders (infantry) in map design. :) We need places available to take cover from vehicles, as well as places that feature "toe to toe" combat against enemy infantry.
The plateaus remind me slightly of BF4 "Silk Road", love how that map plays in Conquest.
Thanks Chief! Actually, you should rather thank GeoControl 2 for the nice terrain lol. I basically just worked of a template and so far the terrain will be edited much further.
Part of why I am making this map is because I feel that there is a lack of original locations in custom BF2 maps, and of course the Armored Fury booster pack didn't add a lot of US based maps either.
So this map will be part of a mod that I am working on and part of the goal would be to add more content to BF2 that looks like it could have been made by DICE themselves. I plan on doing this map in the style of default BF2 maps so that it can be very consistent, yet keeping it still very original and different in other aspects compared to vanilla maps.
As for the infantry, there will be 3 control points set in a village that will be very linear in design and would allow for better CQB. I will try to add more indoor locations too, but that depends heavily on my modelling skills. Also, this map will mostly be a tank battle orientated map, with the combination of special air vehicles like Harriers etc. :)
More info to come soon as I will most likely make a thread about this map in the BFSP forums.
Sounds great! Your project sounds very interesting, I will be watching for your thread at BFSP. :) While I'm certainly no mapper, I know what I enjoy playing and can give feeback in that regard.
Good luck with the project, from first glance it looks like you have a great start!
Thanks man, just to elaborate further, this map won't be all that is coming! I plan to make multiple expansion maps of the expansion/booster packs. This will kinda take a long time, but I will show some details in the near future. :)
This bit is really exciting. I languished the fact that BF2 has so few statics that allow for access by infantry. BF1942 had far more, as does BF3 and BF4.
To help simplify the process maybe you could 'carve out' some of the existing statics and add interiors?
Maybe you could add damaged variants of statics as well? That is something sorely missing from BF2 also (that is present in the other BF games as well, go figure :P ).
Making indoor locations of existing statics will be the easiest way to go. Overall I won't be making a lot of them, just a few though. Basically just a handful of special buildings placed at control points. One of my ideas is to add a shopping mall CP which will be suited for indoor massacres. Further than that is still yet to be determined. Currently I am still in the layout design phase where I plan the locations of the CPs and strategic areas. When I know more, I will be glad to share it. ^^

Nice work man! I see you get a hang on geocontrol now :P
