I wish to apologize for the delay in this posting. I had hoped to be able to post the last version of Lors' Empire IV, however I am unable to access it. Therefore, this will be the final version available. It is very playable and in my opinion one of the most involved and graphically rich mods I have ever played. I will attempt to answer questions about the mod to the best of my ability. Thank you for your continued interest.

In order to use spells, you must go to the Bordello and visit the Dealer (I think he/she is called) located at the top of the stairs in the back of the shop. Purchase the item for the spell wanted. You must of course meet the requirements for that spell. Equip the item like a weapon and use it like a weapon. Some items are good for only one use, while others can be used multiple times

A workaround I have used is to create a separate game save before I purchase a ship, and another whenever I port my ship. In this way, I can go back to a save whenever this glitch happens. I lose some game play, but I can get back to when the ship was working correctly. This probably won't help in your current game, unless you have a game save from before the glitch happened.
Another thing to try is to land on shore, rather than dock at a port; I haven't explored this option to see the glitch happens with this approach. I do remember that there was a place near Yalen that I couldn't access my ship, probably because of the cliffs there.

I have run into this same problem in Empire III. With Lor gone, the only resource might be the people who made the original mod for the ships. Unfortunately, I have no idea who they are or on what website you might check. Sorry...

Over 1000 days into the game. Have conquered almost all the new factions on the mainland. I've got over 5 million denars in my treasury, and another 5 million in my cash-on-hand. I can field an army of over a thousand soldiers; but the biggest challenges of such a large army are food and rest. Right now I am concentrating on the Kalua faction; I've got them down to just one town, but they have a huge army there, so it is a game of cat-and-mouse while I pick off their armies when the lords "come out to play".

Dark Summoners are some of the toughest "bandit tribes" in the game, mostly because they can summon creatures to fight which makes their numbers much greater than the "50-member enemy" or whatever they appear at the start of the battle. I try to avoid them early in the game, until I can build a large army of advanced soldiers.

Lor passed away on July 21. He will be missed. If I can get ahold of his final version of EmpireIV, I will try to post it. I know he made several improvements and fixed some issues on this mod.

Lor spent a lot of time adjusting the game checks (wandering, faction relations, etc.) to make them occur at different times to lessen the game lag.

I find this mod VERY playable. The lag on the map is the result of the richness of features that make the mod so interesting. There is so much going on in towns and villages, in the interactions between factions, plus all the checks for food, skills (such as hunting, fishing, wandering, etc.), and other features, that the mod pushes the limits of our computers. IMHO, the lag on the map is a small price to play for the richness of the game play; after all, the map is just a way to get between the features of the mod.

The very reason for the map lag IS the awesome features. There is so much going on between the factions, plus all the checks for skills (things like wandering, hunting, etc.) plus all the activities going on in towns and villages, that the very richness of the game play of this mod make it push the limits of our computers. IMHO, I find the map lag a small price to pay for the complexity of this mod.

You have to hire villagers in the settlement as stonecutters or lumberjacks (they may be called by another name) and they will produce wood or stone for construction.

After I purchased some Black Knights, I bought a ship and ported my army down to the Krom port of Taujlo. After 150 days, I now hold 2 towns and one castle. The Krom must be worried about me, because they keep petitioning me for peace. They SHOULD be worried....

After some extensive traveling, I found that this problem seems to be limited to only the Swadians, Vaegirs, Rhodoks, Nords, and Khergits. I didn't visit EVERY other castle, but I took a pretty good sample of all the other factions, and found no problems. Hope this is helpful.

Apparently this problem is not at every castle. I have found it in several Swadian, Vaegirs, and Nord castles, and at least one Rhodok castle. I went to what I call Fantasy Island (Orcs, snarfs, etc.) and didn't find any problems there, although I didn't visit all castles there. I will explore further.

Having a problem with castle scenes, like in the options "take a walk around the castle" or when sieging a castle. I get the castle with huge ships stuck in the walls, and neither I nor my party can access ladders. In the siege, the game stops working, closes, and returns to the opening screen with the lady on horseback. Empire III seems to work fine, so I don't think it is my wse or M&B warband files. Any suggestions?
Love this game & just got enough renown to hire good troops for sieging, then hit this wall. I have reinstalled M&B Warband & re-downloaded Empire IV.

Started campaign by borrowing money at the bank. building headquarters and sending caravans. By day 26 I was developed enough to build a fort near Praven. Now it is day 100, and I have enough renown to buy good troops and take my first castle. btw, I have had no crashes or game lock-ups so far, everything is running smoothly.

So glad to see this mod active again. Had a blast playing an earlier version. So many different ways to play: miner, bard, trader, pirate, son of an existing king, fisher, lumberjack, and of course conquerer. There are some very tough "bandit bands" to deal with, and of course a diverse selection of races to deal with and to play (both realistic and imaginary). Definitely NOT a beginner mod. A little advance planning of your character and goals is very helpful, but you can have a great game by just jumping in and seeing what happens. As Lor says, saving frequently is a good strategy, simply because the game is so fully developed that the game engine is working hard to run everything; this minor inconvenience is more than offset by diversity presented in the mod, IMHO.

The new scenes look great! Also, I like the fact that, even though the mod is billed as "civil war", I can run my own independent party, with plenty of "bandit bands" (criminals, infected groups, etc) spawning for me to hunt, for experience and rounds to build my party.
I did find one "disturbing sight" at Fishes Creek, which I am posting at Taleworlds; nothing too serious (I hope), just a little weird.

Whenever you upgrade to a newer version, you must start a new game. Old game saves are not compatible with newer versions.

"Daddy! I want a golden goose!! I want one now!!"
"All right, Veruka, I'll get you one. Lor, how much for the grenade launcher?"

(If you have already done this, please disregard this post.) You will need to purchase a ship and sail to the island in order to meet the king and talk to him.

The ports are placed there on purpose. They exist more for the AI ships than for player use. To properly interact with ports, select "Visit the port" from the village or town menu; do not click on the port icon on the world map.

Lag does occur on the travel map because there are so many things going on with the factions, bandits, etc., but it doesn't effect game play.

Without WSE, many of the features of the game will not function properly or not work at all. Textures and other video-related things can be wrong, which will affect the looks of the game. WSE is necessary to be able to play the mod as it is designed to work.
