hi sorry for the late response, but
source does support soft particles to some extent, and it is enabled here. issue is: depth buffer used for it is ******* stupid and only goes as far as 192 units

it's not a huge deal, though, it does its job on a close-up. and in this case, i covered up clipping somewhat using the big glow

To answer your first question, I believe we are looking to go on Steam very far into the future, yeah! Though Valve is rather iffy with Beta projects like this, so it may not work out... It's very hard to say for sure at this point, though.

And, about the weapon melee thing. I think that'd kinda overshadow the dedicated melee weapons like the Crowbar and the Stunstick, so we'd probably not add that.
