I think they were just scared metro cops trying to run away and save themselves more than anything. They're not traitors they're deserters.
These guys intentionally chose to fight against the Combine and hold a fragile peace with the resistance. Still, they are far more loyal to the Resistance than they ever were to the Combine.

I believe in order to play it you have to download an earlier version of GZDoom or use Zanondrum (Which I haven't tried yet but I soon will.)

This mod is cool and all but what would perfect it would be a map pack of sorts, one that would make the game scarier and slower-paced, hopefully with a story. That and a complete music overhaul, the game really isn't all that scary when you can hear the original DOOM music blaring in the background, heh.
