That's happened to me too, issue seems to be when an AI has too many armies engage in one battle, so like 10 1 unit stacks. Unfortunately the only fix is to just give up that save.
Did the 6.1 Beta revert unit costs in custom battles to previous numbers? The 6.0 files made every unit have a cost of $1. After I downloaded 6.1 Beta now they have standard prices going up to $3000.

One thing I'm noticing in the campaign, most of the AI don't start fielding late infantry until late 1917, usually the winter. Is there any way you can incentivize them to research the tech that locks them into that earlier, like late 1915, early 1916?
It's a tad annoying in late 1916 when your Steel helmet clad Germans are still fighting everyone else in caps.
Glad to hear, this mod is already fantastic, I can say after 2 solid months of playing it. Finally managed to largely cease crashes with the 4 GB patch and the arty projectile hotfix. The only time the game will crash on me now is EXCESSIVE artillery or custom naval battles. Overall very impressed, you guys have come a long way since 2013.
Wow, I tried it out, this might be the fix! No crash on Gheluvelt w/ (friendly) 3 units of tanks, 4 batteries of howitzers and field guns and assorted infantry. (Enemy) 2 batteries heavy mortars,1 field gun, 2 units of MGs. The rest assorted infantry
Tried this fix because I can't get past a 1914 Battle in East Prussia, my army is fielding 2 batteries field guns, the Russian AI: 5 Batteries. While I can confirm the original 100 pellets is reduced to 40 from shrapnel shot, the Hot-fix seems to have no effect, the battle crashes almost exactly where it did before I installed the hot-fix.
Interesting, so there's really no way to prevent or fix this?

Yes, I have always experienced this problem, their a bit buggy. Unfortunately there's no real work around, you just have to use the minimum amount of artillery or none at all on those maps.
