Might & Magic: Heroes 5.5

Mod review

Only good for multiplayer, the AI changes have resulted in enormous army growth for the computer players, meaning you will sooner or later lose.

Apart from that, the balance changes are perfect for multiplayer, just avoid single-player.

Massive Overhaul Submod

Mod review

It is a good mod but there are some complications when it comes to balance and content.

First, the balance is tilted towards the forces of good are better especially when the AI uses them because they don't lack numbers, Rohan and Eregion for instance makes so many milita that I simply couldn't deal with them on medium much less on hard and god forbid on very hard and the non-humans while less in number, required tools that most evil factions don't have which is armor piercing and decent range for dwarves aswell as fast cavalry against elves.

The forces of evil on the other hand have terrible stacks and unless you playing evil men or mordor, you'll be eaten alive, which is quite typical since everytime Orcs of Gundabad and Misty Moutains are crushed by elves and dwarves since the orc infantry although numerous, lacks in defense and attack and only trolls can be of any use as hammer since wargs have terrible stats and are quite bugged( their formation always turns into a line, meaning charges fail most of the time) and the new evil faction, Dunland, is horrible they only have semi-decent javellimen ( semi because they take ages to throw), terrible archers, mediocre cavalry and their strenght high attack infantry is eaten alive by the opposition, which will be dwarves, elves and the doom stacks of Eriador( strange how as Dunland it is better to let Isengard do its thing against Rohan and you'll never play a part of it).

Now onto content, it has more units and buildings than Vanilla and the scripts help a lot specially diplomacy, imortal heroes and nazgul and the obligatory Garrison Script( not as cheap as Vanilla though) but some scripts like Death Take Us for Dunland kills the faction since in 10 turns your population will be at 400 at every city and will only improve if you somehow improve your faction ranking, which can't be traced and doesn't seem to be like the one from Americas.

Also, it takes 50 turns for the game to become exciting and it is because there is very few things to build and what is there offer meager bonuses, for instance, roads can only be built on level 2 settlements, but it requires 2500 to reach for castles and 1500 for villages, all with a base growth of 0.5+0.5 from taxes and 0.5 fromthe first farm building.

As such when you compare it to DaC, you see a lack of options both on buildings and units, which in turn take away all the fun as you must do the waiting game while the AI spams stacks after stacks.

All in all, it is not a bad mod, I've had over 100 hours on it, but the shortcomings are very frustating and will take away most of the pleasure.

Too slow and boring, plus the combat seems worse than vanilla with all units having too much morale and defense

Europa Barbarorum 2

Mod review

Very good mod, in a way superior to the first one since it is more challenging with Rebel generals roaming around their lands, unfortunatelly this mod has too many problems to be fully enjoyed starting with constant crashing that happens from looking at a unit card ( seriously nearly all the time), ending a turn, going to battle ( also quite common since almost always you'll receive a report saying the game can't handle the graphics) and many other instances of crashing.

Now the combat is inferior to the first mod since the units won't attack unless you disable skirmish formation, will take ages to throw javellins, will constantly form lines instead of maintaning foramation and this may be personal, the factions do feel very similar since well, that how it was back then.

On the other hand it has wondeful turn times considering the overhaul, it is just sad that the combat is inferior to basic medieval II and the technical problems make a burden to play.

Stainless Steel

Mod review

Unfun mod with a AI that cheats even more than vanilla, you'll destroy stack after stack only for the AI to spawn troops out of nowhere while you must wait many turns to train a few mediocre soldiers. Cavalry is king, infantry exists to be eaten alive by them.

Apart from being extremelly unbalanced, it is also a resource hog, it doesn't matter how good your pc is, after 20 turns you'll spend minutes waiting for the AI to move.

This mod is unfun, slow and unecessary complicated, there are better mods out there.
