amen to that, they were way to harsh on this review of the game, i mean, how can it be compared to the original half since, 2 completely different engines, but in saying that, i think the black mesa was absolutely amazing, 10/10 easily, just cant wait for the black mesa deathmatch

and for the record, porting original game maps right to another game engine without obtaining permission to do so is illegal, do you want to tell me it isnt silly now?

do you realise how silly that sounds? and IMO it looks like these map were converted from the original game itself and ported right to Source, which as far as i know is illegal
just because someone DOES a rebuild does not automatically mean it is INNEFICIENT
and looking at your profile, you havent worked on any mods, so id say your point is quite invalid
also, i hate to say it but this also looks like a rip of our mod 'idea' to rebuild so to speak, and ive already sent you a PM, however, if something is not worked out then i may have to take action as this could cause some controversy over mod names and the such, sorry =o

if we can have a chat that would be great, i also realise you said "Quake share ware", however, we will most likely be redoing the entire single player maps as well with our mod, so if you can hit me up with a PM, that would be great
it is only illegal if he ripped content from the original doom game itself and used it in the mod, however if he made the content from scratch then that is legal

the only time it is illegal to recreate any game is if it falls under these things:
1. if the mod uses the same name as a registered trademark (AKA QuakeII:Source) that is illegal, because it contains a copyrighted trade mark, however if it remakes a game under a different name (E.G: Quartz:Source as a quake remake) then that is perfectly legal
2.If any content was converted from the original game itself, that is illegal, however if the content was made from scratch is it perfectly fine

id like to put in my 2 cents, and i can tell you in all honesty, i would not call a map pack a 'mod' as such, as all it is it just new landscapes, nothing more nothing less
mods, however, are an entirely different category altogether, of course for mods, teamwork is required, a strong leader, everything you want to do with the mod planned, get some programmers, sound engineers, modelers. blood, sweat, tears and many hours get poured into mods to create something great for communities, not that im saying you dont pour hours of work into mapping, but mapping still does not equate to the amount of work that goes into a mod
sure, maps do spur people in to playing the game for longer and to add that certain 'thrill' if you will call it that, but there is only so far you can go with maps and calling maps anything else but 'maps' is pretty much describing it wrong, and is just downright stupid.
Maps arent 'Mods', they are just worlds, terrain, a new surface if you will.
Programming, New Models and weapons, new effects, new sounds, plus the maps, now that is a mod.
nothing a bit of polygon manipulation couldnt have fixed but the concept was dropped, so thats why it has the litte pyramid shape on the end, you cant really see the handle grip too good either, this was very early, ohh well, we will get something better when we can get some modelers on board

in all fairness i can see what you are saying, but i would like to point out the the Quake2:Source mod has not been pulled up for such a thing by Id
plus, i am not plastering Id's trademark all over it, they called their first one simply 'Quake'
mine, i have added extra 'Quake1:Source', which the whole name on it's own has not been used, also all the content in this mod is made entirely from scratch, to avoid any legal issues

i dont intend to be rude or anything but i did some research before starting this project, and as far as the internet goes there wasnt a Quake1 mod on the source engine, except this one is now on the source engine lol, just thought id let you know =)
