Hello! I like modifications, mostly to older games that I feel could have been better. I'm mainly here for the Dawn of War mods. I also enjoy mods to StarCraft II, but they're much more publicized, meaning this website isn't needed to easily find them. I probably won't do much here...but anyway...

I'm trying to update to the Hunt Begins. I downloaded the base Hunt Begins file (I assume I need to download that before I download the latest patch for it).

I can't seem to get it to actually install properly. The default install folder it shows is "Dawn of War Soulstorm". However, the folder with my soulstorm stuff is called "Dawn of War - Soulstorm. Hence when I first did the install, everything was installed to a separate folder and soulstormn didn't have any new mod to choose in the game manager.

I did the install I second time but this time selecting the actual folder I have Soulstorm in. The install finished and there's no new mod in the game manager menu. In fact, I don't there's anything new in the folder. It looks the exact same as before...Weird...

So I don't know what's happening.

Tarantulas would be a nice lore-friendly replacement of the non-lore friendly bolter turrets (I don't think "bolter turrets" are mentioned at all in Warhammer 40k).

I wouldn't mind different voices for different units, but in the vanilla Dawn of War, many different units of the same race are generally voiced by one guy to give the race some consistency (with only special units and outlier units being voiced by different guys)...
...and because of the that the inconsistency with using different voices for all of the new units would bother me. I know it's basically unavoidable, but I just tend to be bothered a lot by inconsistency in a lot of things...

George Exley would do very well being the voice for many of the new Imperial Guard units i.e. the ones that would almost certainly be voiced by Scott McNeil had they been in the vanilla game (for example, all of the vehicles had the same voice, just with different lines...all of the new vehicles in the mod could be voiced by Exley to add some kind of consistency why also having new lines that make sense with the new vehicles).

I've always thought that adding the Tantalus would be great. Dark Eldar don't use titans because they prefer raiding and all, but one titan wouldn't be too bad, and I'm sure squadrons of Ravagers could be used to take down titans and bring the battle back to simple infantry and vehicles, which is what the DE can only use.

And if people think that it isn't right for Dark Eldar to be battling armies with titans, than there's always the option to disallow titans in the game.

Funnily enough, changing the squad size actually didn't help with keeping true to the universe. In codex chapters, a Tactical Squad consists of four to nine regular marines, and always a sergeant (I don't know why Dawn of War has always been a game of squads not starting with sergeants...).

Of course each Marine is still a very powerful warrior, and so the balancing aspect is that only one or two squads are really needed to win most battles in the lore, and this would be translated as each squad being really expensive in the game. Personally I think it's better to be able to produce less squads but have each squad consist of more troops; instead of making new squads at a decent rate with only two troops starting, my patience would be tested and there would be more anticipation for getting a more expensive but larger and more formidable squad. I probably didn't explain that well...

Do the Tau Warriors still have to purchase pulse rifles, instead of starting with them? Because I personally believe that was a problem in the patch I have been playing. I wouldn't mind it so much if I could pay the resources to give every warrior a pulse rifle, but unfortunately I can only give half a squad pulse rifles. It's underwhelming for me, and also goes against the lore.

I haven't update in a while so apologies for not knowing the circumstances of The Hunt Begins.

Female guardsmen appear in only very few regiments, so adding them into a game in which Imperial Guard regiments can't be distinguished beyond anything more than a coat of paint would sort of go against the lore.
The fact of the matter is that the female in the Imperium of Man don't work on the frontlines nearly as often as men, unless they're part of the Adepta Soroitas or the few Astra Militarum regiments that contain nothing but females, or the very rare mixed male and female regiments.

Interesting problem. If that is true (I'm too lazy to bother booting up the game to check myself), it would be great if that could be fixed. I've always been one for being immersed into the game and Warhammer 40k lore, and realism (in this case a realistic scale) usually helps with that.

K-leb - - 59 comments @ Possible Ghost Ark ability? (WIP)

ARGH! The video shows nothing but black if I want HD quality.

I don't know of the Ghost Ark's current abilities so sorry if I make a miss-assumption in the following text.
Anyway I think the ability has an idea that's going somewhere. In the lore of Warhammer 40k, Ghost Arks are able to regenerate un-powered or broken Necrons. However, the necrons have to be stationed within the ark, so that lots of tiny scarabs may go about fixing them.
So I reckon instead of having the necrons regenerate where they are, allow the ark to either
1. Heal necrons that are being carried
2. pick up "dead" necrons and put them into the ark so that they may slowly come back "alive" and be unloaded to wage war again (I don't if that is possible to code)
3. Both of the above
Another neat thing about the Ghost Arks in the lore as that they can break down necrons that are too damaged into raw energy. This could be interpreted into the game, and I reckon it would be a fairly unique ability for the necrons. The ghost ark could hover over "dead" necron bodies on the field, or pick them up and put them in the cargo, and then the player would slowly gain the power resource until the bodies are completely gone.

Whether this whole thing should have to be researched late tier...well, I'm not the biggest fan of the idea of researching in this game (research this and suddenly all marines have better bionics even though they're already on the field...), but in terms of balance it would probably need to be so.

I don't know of the coding limits in this game so pardon if any of my ideas are too wild. And I've read that an ability like this could give the Necrons too many resurrection abilities...Well, I think it would be fine. That is one of the main themes of the Necrons. If it had the limitation that the necrons had to be carried within the ark to be brought back to "life", and the process was relatively slow, then I reckon it would be balanced.
And besides, and like following the lore accurately.

I still don't think that the Dark Eldar should have titans, but they could look really cool and I guess if they're designed well they could be quite unique and interesting, fitting the DE aesthetic and combat style while also being worthy of being titans...

I still need to emphasize how much awesome this would have been. I love the new features you were bringing that StarCraft II even now does not have.
New ground unit pathing so that troops move into realistic formations. That's awesome!
New aircraft pathing and weapons that allow for proper dogfights and other more realistic and awesome aircraft goodness. That's even more awesome!!!
Better lighting, with better weather effects (lightning!!!) and dynamically moving shadows. So essentially, more immsersive environments. That's what I want more most from StarCraft II. Hopefully Legacy of the Void delivers on better environments...
From the screen shots I've seen, there's some really good doodads and props, and really good terrain textures that I am gushing over. I wish I knew how the terrain was changed, how it was created...well, and I also wish I could have those assets but..well...
Every units fires projectiles? And there's an accuracy feature for weapons? YES YES YES!!!!!

It just seems like the perfect mod because it adds so much to StarCraft II. I'd love to have it if only to implement it's improvements to environments and unit mechanics into StarCraft II itself.

I am very sad to see this mod on hold for more than 3 years now. I haven't known it for long; I discovered it after the announcement was made.

I really wish these guys could at least lend out a few of the assets they made. I mean...that snow tileset. Damn, I would love that! Even if just so that I have something resembling a tileset for Braxis.

It's shame for this studio to rely on the marketplace becoming a thing. I don't think it will now that so much time has passed. I think not enough people like the idea of paying for custom StarCraft II content, even if it's super duper good. The marketplace would be very nice for mods such as this one, in which a proper company is making it and the development of it is essentially the employees' living.

Art tools are out now, so half of the reason why this mod was put on hold is no longer a problem, at least.

K-leb - - 59 comments @ Beta Tester Screenshots of THB - Pic of the day.

Seeing this picture has reminded me of something...

I reckon you guys should implement the Necron Tomb Citadel (and its Fortress and City of the Dead variants) some time in the future. It'd basically be the only Necron structure in the game besides Monoliths (and Pylons if they count) that actually exists in Warhammer 40k lore. It be awesome to utilize on large maps.

I would use Eranthis' icons, as sweet and high quality as they are, but it would clash with the style of every other icon.
Also I'm not a fan of the faces he created for the Necrons. I can'rt quite explain it, but they seem to form expressions that makes them seem personified in a different way to what I'd want them to be personified.

K-leb - - 59 comments @ A Very Possible New Addition To THB:

How about it's name? It's a Wraithlord! I'm confused...are you considering making this separate from the Wraithlord already in the game? Because that would just be really weird, in my opinion.

The Wraithlord in vanilla Dawn of War was fine because it was faithful to what the Wraithlord looked like in Warhammer 40k at that time (that time being 3rd edition). But I can definitely dig this new model. It's a little too bulky for my tastes, but I prefer it seeing as Warhammer 40k has now updated tremendously. You might as well just replace the old Wraithlord with this new model.

Once again some stellar work. I just wish the noise marines were being a bit louder, or more Slaanesh-like. They sound too restrained, as if they were simple Chaos Space Marines. However really this voice you've got here is more than I could ever expect so it's amazing either way!

Best voicing I've hear in Ultimate Apocalypse so far! Although the Chaos Land Raider and a couple other units (although even the better ones have some noticeably poorer quality recording) actually sound pretty good right now.

Also, since when did videos on Moddb have advertisements?

Just found out about your voice work. And...wow!!!
The Sorcerer Lord sounds better than the one currently implemented in Ultimate Apocalypse (no offence to the person who voices him).
You really have a talent! This is working-on-a-big-company-video-game quality, as far as I'm concerned.

My only suggestion here is maybe to add a bit more filter to the Chaos Dreadnought's voice. Maybe some more reverb? As far as I can tell from another comment of yours, you're still working on finding good sound filters/effects for vehicles, so I won't fuss.
Also I can't help but nitpick...buuuuuut it would be cool if the Sorceror Lord had a more intimidating first line, something along the lines of "The darkest power you could ever imagine...has entered." Just something that isn't the same as the regular Sorcerer's opening line.

Speaking of different Imperial Guard armies, I must say that I really wished Relic allowed more customization of the factions and more types of armies within those factions.

Wouldn't it be awesome if when playing the Dark Angels chapter of the Marines, that the marines had cloaks? Now, I'm not saying that their gameplay stats should be different, just aesthetics and maybe other stuff such as names if some armies are unique enough that they're units are called different names from the average.

Here's another example: wouldn't it be awesome to be able to play as regiments from the Catachan Jungle Fighters?! And their veteran squads are not known as veteran squads, but instead Catachan Devil Squads? Of course Dawn of War, nor this mod, have veteran squads in the Imperial Guard, but that's besides the point.

An example of more customization is the ability to choose what the heroes in your army look like. For example, when creating a new army for the Space Marines in the Army Painter, I would be able to switch between different Space Marines force commanders. The force commander in my army could look like Thule or like Angelos (probably not Boreale). This would also further add the uniqueness that different armies can be given. When playing the Cadian 412th Regiment, the General would be Sturnn (even when not playing Winter Assault)! And the 252nd Conservator Regiment's General would be Stubbs!

But that's really just a fantasy...the day that gets implemented is the day I become prime minister.

With the bonus maps addon, am I able to delete the old, un-apocalypsed maps without any fatal errors? Because having two versions of each map creates a mess and I wish I could delete the old maps, because I'll never use them! So can I?

Also is there an easy way to rename those bonus maps that have really weird names (e.g. 8p_moon)?

Well the assassin isn't a hero, nor is he even part of the imperial guard at all (I'm surprised he's still in the mod). And I believe Vindicare Assassins don't get other equipment besides what they always have (Exitus Rifle, Exitus Pistol, Spy Mask and Stealth Suit).
But that's just me being pessimistic and a sucker for the Warhammer 40k lore.

Te problem is probably that only the primary colour is standing out there. Where's the grey (secondary)? Where's the gold (trim)? I can see those colours, but in very small amounts, and I think that's the reason why it seems too colourful. And I can't see any yellow (2nd trim) at all.
