This tutorial is really an editorial, of sorts. One page would have been enough space for the content. It does lay out some basic common-sense ideas that many young noobie would-be-modders overlook, especially Step 1. This doc may indeed discourage some of the clueless ones from making more mod trash, and that's a good thing. But if someone decides to do a mod without first understanding the basic principles laid out here, this doc isn't going to help much.
After all, its grandaddy and narrative predecessor, Marathon, is one of the most enduring moddable games ever. Still being worked on, too, esp. in open source.
If Bungie was still independent, there would already be a groundswell of modding preparation for Halo. Now, that's doubtful, as Microsoft probably doesn't want the hairy prospect of their IP being worked over by an unknown bunch of spotty nerds. (They pay nerds to do that in Redmond already, ya know)
Do I think Halo will be moddable? No.
Should it be? Yes.

Now, gotta first give props where due: the maps and models look really nice. 'But.'
I haven't played the mod, but if Gangwars is described as realistic, then the term 'realistic' needs a little redefinition. This is just from reading the description on the GW web site:
"Gang leaders the bags they carry send out a blip on everybody's radar in a proximity of 2000 feet at a four second interval."
Huh? Since when do narcotics send out an active radar ping? Since when do gangbangers have radar gear? Okay, CS guys have motion-sensors, yeah...
"Gang leaders however, influence their gang members by having every friendly gangster in their short proximity heal from their wounds gradually over time."
Yeah, realism. Maybe in a voodoo-gang scenario.
And it IS a lot like Counter-Strike. Just look at the Arsenal page. I wonder when the last time was the LAPD Gang Unit confiscated a Crips H&K Silenced G36C.

Hmm, armor-piercing plasma, superheated ionizing propellant.... Standard issue weapon for a spaceship? Do they have frequent incursions of unstoppable hostile life-forms?
That's one big gun I WOULDN'T want to fire on board a spacecraft. It'd take care of any aliens, yeah, and crew as well. Sheesh.

If you didn't get the Fight Club movie, then think of it this way: It's 'Office Space' + 'The Sixth Sense' + big heavy bollocks.
If you missed the point of the movie, then you may just be another consumer with an Ikea Nesting Instinct and a fridge full of condiments and no food.
Thnx MrMagnetichead. Watch the flick a few more times, you'll get it.
