After all, its grandaddy and narrative predecessor, Marathon, is one of the most enduring moddable games ever. Still being worked on, too, esp. in open source.
If Bungie was still independent, there would already be a groundswell of modding preparation for Halo. Now, that's doubtful, as Microsoft probably doesn't want the hairy prospect of their IP being worked over by an unknown bunch of spotty nerds. (They pay nerds to do that in Redmond already, ya know)
Do I think Halo will be moddable? No.
Should it be? Yes.
I doubt Halo will be very modifiable other than simple hacks. I see it as being like GTA3 to mod - it's possible, but difficult.
I highly doubt that hammer will work with Halo since Halo's worlds are based on meshes. In fact, I think they created the worlds with 3ds Max. One thing to remember is that Halo was developed specifically for the Xbox, so modding wasn't considered when they wrote the engine. Halo PC is using the same engine basics as Halo Xbox, so it's doubted that it will be any more modifiable. Either way, there has been no indication from Gearbox that Halo PC will support modders, so it's probable that they aren't trying very hard.
I hope they consider the modding community though, since Halo's engine looks to have a lot of potential.
Yeah valid points... i did actually think about this more having read these quotes and i tend to agree. Halo is something Microsoft values as apart of its X-BOX franchise and i expect they would be worried that the PC version will suck away gamers (espically online)
So yeah, one can always hack game packs and change this and that, as for altering the gameplay, well that seems questionable at this stage.
WHo cares? Halo is 2 or 3 years old now right? I woulda bought it then. Now I will get some other game with vehicles and physics. A new game, not a3 year old xbox port.
Most game developers hope there game gets mod to keep it alive... (heard of HL any1?) so im definetely saying it will be and there is also a dev kit for XBox being released on XBox Live i heard (not sure if true)
You are one of the kind believing that children are brought my the stork! Even if ever there would be an sdk for this game it will suck because it's designed for x-box... porting it to pc gives a lot of problems and I don't think this game will work without crashing all time ;=)

False, they started working on it way before XBox was released. At that time it was meant to be a PC game. And porting a game from Xbox to PC or vice versa isnt the most complicated thing in the world, since Xbox is only a cheap version of a PC, engine wise.
not being able to mod games limits the lifespan of a game...i bought a few of my games because of the mods that had just come out and thats what makes em livable...get tired of the same damn thing over and over...
Why not? I will go on record as saying it would be stupid for any game to deny modders. At the very least allow them to customise elements of the game

I think it will have its own map tool, most likely hammer and probably and SKD down the line.

Every game is moddable but some of them are very difficult to mod.
No-one really cares. Halo doesn't have anything you can't get in other games. If you wanted to make a Halo mod, make one in ut2k3.

It might be sort of moddable since Halo first started out for the PC.
halo pwnz ut2k3
Gearbox will do it's best to mess up this game aswell :flame:

Gearbox ported THPS3 with no problem.
Halo is years old and still looks and plays better than ut2k3.
to look better and play better than (crap)ut2k3 is not such a problem... even for console games from fiXboX
I read that it would be moddable, but not right after release. Thats what I read that Gearbox said.
Most game developers hope there game gets mod to keep it alive... (heard of HL any1?) so im definetely saying it will be and there is also a dev kit for XBox being released on XBox Live i heard (not sure if true)
lets hope not
I would rather get UT2004 instead. It will probably come out first, and will feature 5 times more vehicles. And is already modable.
Not to mention it would probably come out first
Another attemp of them to make a usable UT clone? This one will surely suck as much as UT2k3 does...

Only special thing about Halo afaik is the SP campaign. Multiplayer is nothing really innovative, TDM, CTF, add a jeep or two and thats it.
the mentioned in the halo pc faq on their website that they will. try to compete with that! :)

Read this interview: Shacknews.com
It hints at moddability, though I don't predict it will be that great or that big of a hit.
