I've been pretty fortunate with crashes, but there's an odd quirk in my game that I don't think I've seen in comments for either upload of LAR. If I missed this in either description, that's on me

Stealth seems kind of ****** up. The key problem I'm having is that it breaks the DV bandit infiltration mission. Bandits will tolerate me... to a point, but after a few seconds of being seen, they open fire. Doesn't seem to help if I put the jacket on outside the view of bandit sentries, either.

I actually managed to sneak my way to the bandit drunk without being seen (which took some luck), but even if no one's firing on me, the moment I complete the quest, I get an instant failure as if I've been discovered. What'd odd is that being fired upon doesn't fail the quest to talk to the drunk, even though the game clearly thinks I've been discovered.

Gusarov then sends me to the Monolith base and boy, the bandits were bad, but these, uh... yeah, the PDA says not to go in guns blazing, and I tried, but they've got xray vision or some ****. Sadly my gamer skills aren't honed enough to take out the Monolith base and find those stupid documents, though I spent a good 2 hours trying to.

Another odd stealth thing is that save scumming just breaks it. The moment I load a save, all the enemies are alerted to my location. e.g. if I load a save at Agroprom, the siren will immediately sound and the soldiers will go on alert (I know because thats what happened despite me taking the underground and emerging at 10:30 PM). All this makes me think that something's messed up with stealth.

Is that a known issue, and if so, I don't imagine there's a way to fix it beyond going down to Novice for every stealth section?

Thanks, I neglected to check install guides for the previous version of LAR. That was a bit tangled but now it works (in as much as anything STALKER can work)

So I'm quite sure that I've just done something wrong, but I did 2 reinstalls and I'm still having the same issue.

The game literally refuses to launch if I set game language to Russian, giving me this:
Expression : F
Function : CXml::Load
File : xrXMLParser.cpp
Line : 75
Description : text\rus\stable_dialogs_oldroad.xml

I had a clean install of DC 1.4007, nuking the old diredctory I had it installed at and redownloading it from a torrent. Then I'm quite sure I followed all the steps from the guide (dumping gamedata into the root folder, dumping mods into the root folder, replacing the bins and the configurator).

It works if I set it to English, but it's just not the same if I'm not struggling to understand most of the game. Is this a common issue? Should I look for this file in the DC gamedata files?

that isn't the problem, the problem is that this setting causes story NPCs like the bandits and Monolith in DV to attack you on sight. Mole also wanders off very reliably, as does Wolf.

Is it normal that after exiting the Sin hideout in Darkspace the FPS turns almost unplayable? What do I lower to get it back up? I've tried numerous settings, nothing stuck.

Got a problem with the bandit password mission in Dark Valley. Clean 1.4007 install. Basically, picking up the bandit jacket you find on dead bandits in the old x18 entrance only sets your faction to Bandit, without resetting your rep. Still getting shot on sight and failing if I fight back.

I wasted 1+ hours trying to get to that entrance (playing on master with all the difficulty modifiers from the launcher cranked up) and I do NOT want that to be for nothing.

Well I'm in a pickle. 1.4002, no new game, didn't want to bother. Got to the end. Can't leave the CNPP interior.

After you get the power thing and return to the room with the PC with the generators password, the cutscene is all ****** up. The door doesn't open and the box carriers just walk in place. And then the door stays locked, and I don't think there's any other way I can leave.

The description for the major's quest, at least in the russian version, says it needs to be the green ecologist suit, not the orange.

Well back in the day that was a big wide nothing. Right now Darkscape is actually a good location. But the rest? Rostok is a dead zone. Chernobyl isn't populated properly. Respawning sucks. The AI boundaries are painfully obvious and infinitely abusable.

As long as the ramps allow for better unit collision, this basically fixes every problem the old map had. I'm fairly sure that this will have taken the gameplay to a new level. The generators in particular make more and more sense the more I think about them.

It used to be even worse with even less mutants and almost no respawning, but you're right. They're all tied down to their areas and never move anywhere or do anything in particular.

Yeah it seems to be working this way and it's idiotic no matter how you slice it. If it's intentional, for whatever reason, then it's extremely obscure and feels like a glitch, it needs to be better showcased. If it isn't intentional, then n/c.

Yeah this is odd. I think this is a removed feature. They degrade into "npc_name_ PDA's with time too.

I would guess that the key is hidden in one of the apartment buildings you can enter. They're fairly useless otherwise, so maybe that's what they did with them?

I personally havent really begun doing this quest, but my first instinct was to visit the trader at the Army Warehouses. His bodyguard is literally called Garik.

It's better than it used to be in 1.3000. Still a lot of places feel empty and kind of pointless. Chernobyl in particular has a bunch of houses that are completely empty, same for Dead City, same for most of Freedom's factory HQ - stalkers aren't even really patrolling aroudn there. Having played mods like OLR, I know these places can be made to feel much more alive.

Nope, need a new suit. All the inbuilt NV's are the ****** green one.

If it makes you feel any better, using night vision right now is dangerous anyway, due to the crash.

You get to the spot as you look for materials for your PDA. It'll be down one of the corridors, and then you'll have a new problem and it'll be a while until you'll have something to get rid of it. I don't think you were meant to do that that early in the game since the dialogue doesn't make sense.

Actually, that happens to remind me, there's a legit bug that I hope has been fixed in the upcoming patch. Early in the game, one of the unique bandits in DV can drop a modified SPAS-12, the one that's tuned to fire alt ammo. Well, it kind of refuses to accept the most common type of alt ammo (slug) and only takes in darts despite stating in the description it fires both of those better than regular shot. And regular shot does indeed work pretty terribly with it.

Having very similar issues, they started going invisible in the Village underground. To be fair if they never did, I wouldn't have made it through, but that's still pretty pathetic.

Though the bigger problem, overall, is mutant AI in general. They become absolutely harmless if you fight them in an enclosed area, or a place with a lot of elevated ground. They barely even try to hit you. Bloodsuckers circle you, zombies and snorks shamble past you, etc. Only boars are reliable, boars and fleshes.

Doesnt he say that the mutant is in a house and mark it for you? Go in there, kill him, and find the room that's filled with items. The pistol will be in there.

maybe sort of kinda. One of the worst things that could happen is if we get to Clear Sky levels of crowded locations. But it's true, mutant AI is pretty terrible, human AI is actually not so bad. Rostok is also one of the emptiest places in the entire game.

Are the patrons in the new Bar meant to not have any table-standing animations? They just stand still with their weapons out and stare at the wall. And to make it even more uncomfortable, the rabid soviet chanting from Yantar is playing instead of Bar music. Either something is definitely wrong here, or Barkeep paid with the souls of his patrons to establish a new bar in what was 9 hours in my game.

Really though, it's immersion-breaking even by this game's standards, and I've so far been overlooking a lot of the very questionable dialogue and constant translation errors (playing in Russian). I've seen mods that handle the old Bar properly, like OLR 2.5. Or is it just bugged out because I didn't start a new game after 1.4002?
