S.C.R.A.P.

Mod review

Probably a 10 once the map catches up to how the game's changed.

Very different from most other RTS formulas, would be better as its own game, but this is as good as it gets.

The Trapdoor

Mod review may contain spoilers

The Trapdoor is arguably one of the best custom stories I have played, being original and very well thought-out, with its own flair and taste. It has its own pros and cons, which I will list below, but at the end of the day it still falls to the same thing that so many others have: its main issue is that it's an Amnesia mod. The mechanics and ideas present in this story just don't work well enough within the realms of the engine, and we have to do with what we get. It's pretty fair to say that Amnesia: TDD is pretty damn outdated by this point, and it is a grand shame that there is probably not going to be a better platform for horror anytime soon. It is great that it allowed for this story to exist, but it suffers because of how the realization has no option but to be very rough. Overall, yes, I do recommend it, as it is levels above the overwhelming majority of stories.

Now, as for the pros and cons.

Pros:

- The unique atmosphere and tone make for a rather different experience, something you do not normally get from custom stories - even if at times it may be for the worse.

- The story itself is really, really good and very well-realized.

- The connection to a long forgotten show from the 80's gives it just that much more flair if you are familiar with the source material, and makes for a very unintrusive connection if you are not, something crossovers rarely manage.

- The voice acting is miles above what you normally get, even for stories where it is reportedly good. Burke sounds exactly like a character like him should - desperate and tired above all else, and for once somebody actually thought to get a decent mic before recording.

Cons:

- Due to some issues in the beginning, you may get stuck for a while. Thematic, yes, but...

- During that time, the new sanity system makes it somewhat boring to drag heavy objects when you are absolutely sure nothing can ever happen as Boney does, in fact, provide absolute safety. That changes, if you power through.
