When I was first designing Freelance (Still designing all the time) I was considering BC style controls and interactions. However making it as advanced a flight system as BC would be like making two complete games insted of one. We then come to the conclusion that a more legacy, or SFC style flight mode should be used. You will still be able to command the bridge (not sure to what level yet) but you will not have the full 3 axis, flying "upside down" style and crew automatically piloting your ship functionality. Primaraly however I will say that Freelance focus's more on the environments and characters rather then the space combat.

To be honest we have no idea, we have just lost alot of our team members due to inactivity, and it is such a large scale project, but it will be finnished. I havent spent the past 5 years plotting and planning this mod just for it to go down the toilet :P. Now, by stand alone it means that in the simplest of terms it wont be a mod anymore, It will be a complete stand alone game that doesnt require any other game or application in order to be downloaded and installed. Oh and thanks for the nice comments :P.

As far as I know Paramount sold the rights to Star Trek when the new movie was made to CBS Studios. And as far as I know, as long as its a free publication, you are not required to ask for permission. For example there are many fan film serries, and other stand alone fan made games out there that didnt need to ask permission. As long as I put "Star Trek is a registered trademark of CBS Studios" in the read me, credits and menu system it should be fine. Of course I will consult with them before release.

The project will still be a free release, and all the work will be original so as far as I know there will be no breach in copyright. And of course, original Elite Force mods, maps ect will not work with Freelance, so it wont be like giving out a free copy of the game.

Freelance takes place in a region of space just out side of Federation space called Sector 175. Most of the game takes place here, and you can not visit, romulan/klingon/cardassian ect space. There will be side missions that take you to some of those locations, but primararly you are limited to this sector.

The loss of the nacelles and slight change of the landscape was intentional. The Fallen takes place in 2374, 14 years before Freelance. During all this time, the site has been subjected to meteor showers, intense storms and land slides/erosion. I wanted to make the site look older, so the Ulysses now has a green algae all over the hull and has sunk into the water further. When finished it will also have some additional breaches, and I may even collapse the roll bar at the back.

Its an old model and is currently getting a revamp, but the nacelles are sovereign class style. The Archer was built in 2384 for the two hundred year anniversary of when Jonathan Archer first entered office as Federation president (See in a mirror darkly). This ship was designed based on the original NX01 blueprints in honour of this occasion. It had one mission, to deliver various diplomats and historians to Andoria, where Archer had once been an Ambassador. Once this mission was over it was commissioned as a small corvette for short range scouting missions, and towing missions around earth and utopia planitia.

well the big blue thing on the far left will be a fish tank with swimming fish and animating bubbles. the lighting effects like spotlight effects on the walls were done manually because ef has no advanced lighting. I too love the carpet texture :P

Just in case anyone has a problem, there have been reports of a memory allocation error for some when playing this teaser. The game may crash to desktop with a z_malloc error. This is due to engine struggling to decompress high resolution textures from the teasers .pk3 files. To fix the error, simply go to the menu, and to video options. On the first page right down the bottom should be a "use compressed textures". Turn that on, and that should fix the problem.

Yeah its built on Quake 3 Arena so about 10 years old now. The detail is done in two phases, things up close that the player can walk up too have alot of detail but the higher up the sides you get, the more the detail is done on the textures. The suspension arches are actually made up of 2 patch meshes which is only 2 faces.

Believe it or not, in my honest opinion, EF2 does not have the engine requirements for it. EF1 has a strong engine, with partial source code available. That means we can do almost anything to the original game with the exception of graphics upgrades. Although we have made some minor improvements. Plus as it is older, and "more dated" it also makes it easyer to mod as there are more developers for it.
