This was an excellent mod: great voice acting, chilling atmosphere, good scares, good puzzles/challenges, beautifully done maps, engaging story, atmospheric music....Very good work on this. Definitely going to be a classic :)

String

Mod review

This mod excels in every aspect:

-Story
-Atmosphere
-Lighting
-Level design/graphics
-Item placement/usage
-Voice acting
-Soundtrack/sound effects
-Character development (for the main character, at least)

The story was so heavy with emotion and chills--it wasn't conventionally scary but more focused on a dark, brooding experience with a slow build up to the finale. The scares were more on a psychological level than anything else, but it worked. Not many mods have coherent stories, to be honest, but "String" manages to tell a very compelling one.

My only issue with this mod is that is was a bit too short--I wish there were more to this fantastic experience! Still, excellent job on what we have been given. Definitely a personal favorite.

Nobody Knows

Mod review may contain spoilers

I enjoyed this mode of the most part--good music/ambient sound selection and excellent visuals. There were some decent scares as well, but I found that it got a little redundant at the end with the Grunt. The maps were well-made--I especially liked the first map with the cave--very beautiful and very haunting at once. Progression was fairly simple, I thought, but I do think there were a few parts that seemed a little confusing (like how you mysteriously can be trapped inside a tunnel at the start if you chose the wrong path. How can you be sure which path is right at first?)

The little issues I mentioned don't really bother me much. My biggest complain, though, about this mod is that the story is lacking. It doesn't make much sense because it's not fully developed. In fact, it's not really developed at all. I never had any idea why I was in the cave in the first map, or what the deal was with the prisoner named Daniel who tunneled his way out. Who was holding him captive and why? Did he actually escape? Was I just a wandering traveler who fell into a cave? Why the Grunts? It never seemed to fully come together in the end.

Brutal Changes

Mod review may contain spoilers

I really enjoyed this mod despite the initial bugs. The level designs were excellent--very detailed and very striking (I especially liked the outdoor area--very well made). The maps were quite dark and eerie, but I liked this--it added to the uneasy atmosphere. I thought the challenges/puzzles were pretty good, and I liked the one used to open the door for the old archives. That was clever. The game had some good jump scare moments that were thankfully not brought on by flying naked dead guys. I thought the story was interesting--kept me guessing until the end--and it played out like a surreal dream or something.

There were some things, though, that I did not like. I thought the ending came up very abruptly. I expected there to be more to the story but it all kind of just rushed together at the end. The main character's relationship to Cedric was never fully explained, so I guess their shared experiences was brought on simply because they had insomnia? I almost thought that the main character WAS Cedric, and he was going through some hellish nightmare over and over for killing himself....There was so much potential in the story and in the detailing of the maps for a longer, more developed plot, I think.

Also, I found a lot of oil in the game but never found a lantern.I either missed it or there is no lantern in this mod. If so, why have all that oil?

Still, nice work and hope to see more mods from you!

Amnesia: Depth

Mod review may contain spoilers

The level designs, music and atmosphere were quite impressive overall. Definitely a chilling gaming experience (I liked the invisible growling monster--very creepy). However, I thought that the story was kind of lacking....I thought it was confusing at times what to do, especially at the very end. I had no idea where I was supposed to go! I just sort of, through luck, picked the right path. Plus, the final stretch was essentially some backtracking, which kind of disappointed me.

I enjoyed this mod for the most part, but I think that there was some things with the story that could have been improved upon....

The Barn's Secrets -Full Release-

Mod review may contain spoilers

I really enjoyed this mod! It felt and played out so much differently than most other Amnesia mods out there--it felt like a very fresh and original experience. The visuals were incredibly done--quite realistic for what you had to work with. Lots of attention to detail and great use of textures (the photos of the elephant seal(?) and sloth on the main character's dining room table made me laugh so much. I liked this bit of humor!) The music and ambient sounds were spot on, and the atmosphere was so chilling at times (especially in the abandoned orphanage). I never found the second Easter Egg item, but it was still a neat little treat to have them in there (I like little bonus tasks in maps)

My biggest problems with the mod, though, deal with the story--while the basic idea was just fine, I thought that it was executed rather poorly. The story moved way too fast and transitions from one part to another seemed jarringly awkward at times. A lot of it felt rushed. I think that the story would have been more engaging had it been expanded upon to allow for more detail.

But, despite that flaw, I still really liked this mod. Something about it really stands out to me. You are a very talented mapper! Please keep up the good work!

White Night

Mod review

This is a mod that can be classified as a psychological thriller--so many questions are proposed throughout the story, and in the end, you aren't entirely sure what the truth is. The horror elements are more subtle, which I like, and this mod feels like it plays with your mind. It's definitely not a conventional Amnesia "monster story," and it reminds me of the chilling atmosphere and story elements of the "Silent Hill" games (which I also like). This mod is definitely like an interactive suspense thriller--a must-play!
