To play without the ai changes just open sp_vpak5.pk3 file with something like 7zip and delete the maps folder.
Latest version of venom has ai fixes without changing the difficulty.

You probably found the answer but open default.cfg with notepad and just add this line seta sys_lang "english" to the end.
