It's a zbrush grab, not yet game res or with correct materials.

I textured at 2048x2048 but it will shrink down just fine. There wouldn't really be a perceivable difference if it were halfed.
Can you elaborate? What shouldn't be baked? What is unoptimized?
I optimized it pretty aggressively though it might just be hard to tell from the wires. The only thing I wish I could do differently is to actually model the text, but obviously that's not really an option given that the polycount would skyrocket.
Look up the designs for an IEC nuclear reactor. It explains exactly how it works.
We experimented with a sandy color but it looked awful. Green was the way to go.
The textures are all 2048 now so it looks better, thanks for all the comments!
After this will it be Opp4sing Force 3: The Previously-Lost Chapters?
what is the world coming to?!
What do you guys not like about the core? Currently it mimics an IEC reactor pretty perfectly. Ignoring the particle, what would you want to see changed?
It's baked in lighting but it's not the same color as the temp particle I put in for this shot. The lighting can easily shift to a more purple color but for now it works.
Gotta be honest, it was a big inspiration. The design of the Reach MAC cannon is phenomenal.
The old HECU models did have the camo canvas actually, but after looking at some concept art of ours, I decided I'd go for the current look (just as a matter of preference artistically).
Maybe it'll come back as a variation in the future, but nothing concrete for now.
Thanks for the crit!
The gas mask's high poly was created using the original's geometry, with the textures applied so it would be 1-1 for sure. Can't please everyone, but if a near duplicate of the original isn't good enough, then there isn't much I can do.
Not only is that not true but It doesn't really reply to the comment MenteR made.
Anyways, I like the Black Mesa Source soldiers but they're going in a very different direction from us.
Rubber doesn't have uniform flexibility. It can be highly flexible and highly rigid. The neck area in real life would be flexible rubber and the head part would be the same with a material inside the mask to reinforce it.
I honestly don't understand what you're refering to. Could you elaborate?
It's redesigned HECU armor. Seeing as their armor was never very realistic in the first place, It wouldn't be sensible to capture a real soldier's look instead of their own.
Not everything has to be designed to the standards of a gun/military nut, especially when it's in the future. That's like asking Mass Effect to replace their weapons with our generation of hardware: it just makes no ******' sense.
Thanks for the comments, I can't be bothered with texture yet because this model doesn't even have a low poly yet.
It's based on real gas mask references and every single one of the old versions. I also researched extensively on gas mask functionality and in that it mirrors reality. The primary goal is to reinvent the old, not to ditch it entirely for some new concept.
That being said, thanks for the response.
the thumb is odd yes but it's staying 4 fingered
Not changing the spaghetti noodles they look awesome.
I don't like the combine metal and it wouldn't really work well with the color scheme which was very well established anyways.
