Just Cause 2

Game review

I have to remove a point for the cringeworthy accents and dialogue, but in my opinion it only adds to the stupid fun of this game.

It takes sandbox to a new level, the explosions are massive and the world is insanely huge without skimping on detail. It uses Gameworks and Havok to makea fantastic looking game, but it runs just fine on AMD cards even at max settings and D3D10. Just buy it!

C&C95;:TD + Covert Operations, now in 1080p without interlacing during cinematics or shadow color distortion. Oh, plus the mouse sensitivity is no longer forced to 9000.

If you have anything against this mod, you are the Hitler we went back in time to get rid of. Correction: Hitler with a purple mustache and green suit, since you won't have this patch.

Xash3D Engine

Engine review

It's not perfect (yet), but it's way better than choosing between OpenGL (framerate tank and sound stuttering on every dynamic light) and Software (genuinely looks like 100% ****).

The developer appears to be very active and has rebuilt GoldSrc to be bigger and better, utilizing the processing power you see on modern computers versus the Windows 95's and 98's.

Try it out, and if you don't like it in its current state, just verify your cache, no harm done.

Five Nights at Freddy's

Game review

Overrated. EXTREMELY overrated. I didn't understand the hype with this game. It's terrifying, yes, but the lack of gameplay and and the dumb Power mechanics are immersion-breaking and leaving you just bored.

I love the concept, but the execution is absolute ****.

However, the second one has improved upon the gameplay and given purpose to the cameras, and rather than hide behind a door you'll have to hide behind a mask with Bonnie sliding in to stare at your soul with an implied "It's raping time!" screech before sliding back into the vent. Try the demo for the sequel, at least, since all the hype of this game is definitely deserved for its sequel.

This game, however, will remain a tech demo that baited youtubers for instant popularity and bored me to tears.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Game review

Great game, overall. I hate to be the hipster here, but the first game was seriously overrated. There was just no gameplay in it, and it was both terrifying and extremely boring.

This game, however, seems to have been modelled after feedback (yes, even the bit about sexy Chica, sadly), and with a much better gameplay system and an actual purpose for the camera, this is what FN@F should have been.

Jay's Mod

Mod review

You're joking, right? This is an absolute ripoff mod. Why would you get this? This is a copy-paste of Garry's Mod with J's posted over a few different things. Garry's Mod came out in 2006, so don't bother pulling that crap. I think I'll try and contact Garry to file a DMCA, because this is just ridiculous.

Exterminatus

Mod review

I don't care that it's still in beta. It works well, it plays well. It's honestly amazing... at first I questioned why it wasn't chaos vs space marines, but then again, that would be kind of generic. I mean, this way it's actually different, since you're instead fighting tyrannids, which are pretty much these dead space alien mega-insects.

At first I couldn't actually play the mod, but it turned out in the end that my SDK base 2007 was broken, and I just verified the files for the base to fix it. After that, the mod gave me no trouble.

I really wish more people played it, honestly. It's an amazing mod, but there aren't many servers running. On the bright side, it works with 2007 dedicated server, and it still has enough to be fun, but really, if you're thinking of getting it, just get it.

Zombie Master

Mod review

It's new, and it doesn't actaully feel like a retextured hl2, which is what most mods I've played are like. That, and the game itself is fun. Need I say more? I think this actually changed the market, and if you don't believe me, look up the SmartGlass trailer for PvZ Garden Warfare. That's just one example. This is a huge game, and if it were on Steam as a published release, I'd buy it.

Desert Combat

Mod review

This mod happened to be so amazing at the time that DICE actually offered the maker of this mod a position in the development of battlefield 2. Play it and you'll see why. Speaking of which I was able to get the core game free on origin, this was obviously the first thing I did. Download this mod with desura, play desert combat with friends. In short, it's amazing.

Full Invasion 2

Mod review

If you think I'm exaggerating about this mod, I'm not. I never give out 10's, because everything has its issues that shows past any amount of polish. But in this case, you have a mod that, given Warband's easy way of flipping between mods, can easily compete with the actual game.

Whatever bugs there used to be are gone, replaced with patches that also add new nations that attack (with the midget invasion being the newest one). It does say in the requirements that it is for 64-bit platforms only, but as long as you do have a 32-bit, you can always play an old version like 0.07. 0.08 might also work, I'm not sure yet. If you have a -bit, I still recommend the low-res edition which still has great graphics, because the loading times become a lot shorter.

This is the first 10 I've ever given. Don't think I'm joking when I say this is the best mod I've played for any game, period.
