Half-Life-The-Meltdown

Mod review

Very poor quality map. This screams "my first map" and it really isn't worth playing. Just a lot of very lazy brush work and easy to fix errors.

Its about 2-3 minutes long.

Between Empires

Mod review

This mod is an incredible feat that I thought I would never see in my 12 years of playing Warband.

Unfortunately the mod suffers from huge issues involving countries never declaring war and lords never ever fighting each other. If you enlist as a regular soldier the mod will assign you to the faction leaders party which almost never fights, they just wander around for literal years doing absolutely nothing.

Battle AI can be really awful. The defending army will dig trenches and then the attacking army will wander back and forth, rarely ever firing their weapons and never charging.

There is a bunch of other problems I haven't mentioned but yeah, really cool mod that just isn't really playable. I hate to say it but its more style than substance.

Opposing Force Redux

Mod review

Opposing Force Redux honestly does not feel like its an improvement.

Yes you get nice weapon and character models but its honestly not that great. The new weapon and character models clash with the overall environment textures and it comes out looking rather weird.

The new sounds are pretty awful with some of them being deafeningly loud. High quality sounds with the Half-Life bitcrunch is a horrible combination and it will destroy your ear drums. The Desert Eagle firing sound is extremely loud and annoying. The box breaking sound is quite long and very annoying when breaking more than a single box.

This mod also appears to have caused many animation and sound bugs which were not present in the original game.

Overall I really don't like this mod and it feels like a really bad clash between modern assets and original assets.

Logistique

Mod review

An excellent mod that manages to make you not feel like Gordon Freeman.

Logistique completely changes Half-Life's gunplay by removing the HUD, removing sprint and adding an ammo check feature with very limited ammunition. The gunplay is a lot slower and guns do a lot more damage, this completely changes the way you play compared to regular Half-Life 2.

The map design is great with high resolution textures and different sections that play to Half-Life 2's strengths. As far as mod voice acting goes, I've heard much worse. The weapons have new models and the only one I disliked was the pistol, they chose an incredibly weird firearm that I can't imagine the Combine using. The mod also has new sounds and a nice looking flashlight effect.

Overall this mod is definitely worth playing however it is very short. Other reviewers are reporting issues however I had ZERO of the issues that they've reported. My quicksave worked perfectly fine and I didn't get stuck at any point, I suspect the other reviews didn't set their Source SDK Base to the upcoming branch.

tr1p

Mod review

Everyone who is saying that this mod is hard is not lying, it's damn hard. But this mod is not difficult due to good level design or well placed enemies, it's just ********.

This mod will throw dozens of Combine Soldiers and Fast Zombies at you, who also happen to be working together. Both the soldiers and the zombies will always prioritize the player as the target so every enemy on the map will chase you. The only way I was able to beat it was by bunny hopping around like crazy and it was absolutely no fun.

I honestly would not recommend this as its basically a Slaughter WAD. (A term used to define DOOM maps that involve throwing dozens of enemies at the player to an almost unfair degree)

Rebel Surge

Mod review

A very good but short Half-Life 2 map. Great custom music that actually fits the HL2 aesthetic.

Dark 17

Mod review

Another shitpost of a mod that isn't worth your time.

The mod creator has taken Half-Life 2 maps and cobbled them together into an awful mess. Enemies endlessly spawn directly in front of you, there is an overabundance of pickups and all the zombies have been textured pure black.

Don't bother with this.

Missing Information

Mod review

Very interesting piece of Half-Life history. If you're looking for an actual "mod" this isn't for you, this is essentially little bits and pieces of the Half-Life 2 we never got, including the maps shown in the E3 demos.

Victorian Era

Mod review

Unfortunately the mod is too early in development for me to recommend. It's such a mess of bugs and unfinished stuff, you can barely make out whats going on. The "Fog of War" system does not work well for Mount & Blade and just adds to the confusion.

Persistent World Mod

Mod review

This mod is a one of a kind mod and I'm surprised that nobody has tried turning this into a full game. Everything in this game is created by players, the whole economic system of the game keeps everything flowing.

The only major issue I have with this mod is not the mods fault, its the servers fault, the admins on the servers are rarely ever active and when they are they don't deal with RDMers (Players who kill randomly).

Overall this mod is brilliant but do be aware that some players are hell bent on ruining everybody else's experience.
