I can really relate to this quote for some reason. It's probably why I'm so skeptical of people.

Actually, that what you call knowledge (I think you mean the Bible "science" stuff) is exactly what Hawking meant with "illusion of knowledge".

It all depends on the point of view:) I read scripture and come to the understanding that those that do not believe are willingly ignorant. While you guys laught at me because the world has taught you that the bible is wrong.

By the way I didn't expect to get my comment bashed for agreeing with the quote, even if I understood it differently.

We are no dumbfucks, thats why we bashed your comment. We know you well enough to know what you meant, which you confirmed now.

It does not depend on the point of view. The illusion of knowledge comes from your scripture, knowledge itself come from science and experience. Ignoring the fact that the world present is willingly ignorant, not believing in a deity that doesnt provide any accurate evidence for his/her/its own existence is not.

We know specific detals about Yahweh which are falsifiable by science - and cleary showed that the christian god doesnt/cant exist at all. So the logically only possible superstition would be deism, if you want a belief that doesnt contradict the world itself (yet).

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowable facts. Well-proven theories, laws, etc. Methods used to accurately predict outcomes in the future (say, gravity).

ILLUSION OF KNOWLEDGE:

I read scripture and come to the understanding that those that do not believe are willingly ignorant.

"Because I believe in the bible, I'm knowledgable, and you're not! Lawl Jeezus > Gravity bro!"

SUMMARY:

You can't have an "illusion of knowledge" when the knowledge you have is proven fact. However, when you simply 'believe' in something like, say, the bible, you are inviting the illusion of knowledge.

@ElfFriend: I'm sorry I don't really like to be rude, but your comment and Mr.Walrus' comment proves Hawking's idea, oh and one thing, when you say:
"the world has taught you that the bible is wrong."
I think you're wrong on this, it's because of the massive ammount of EVIDENCE and PROVEN FACTS that there is about evoltion, in other words, the world didn't taught us, science did, while all that there is about God it's just the bible, which isn't even a fact, I mean can you prove a word that says the bible? And may I ask, why do you believe that there is a God?

We should take this to pm so that people don't get Mad.
However since im using my iPhone and it's a pain to do anything useful on it, I'll just reply once (hopefully) in the comments area before getting this to pm.

Alright since you all claim evolution can be proven then prove it. Dead stuff don't talk, niethere to they come with a tag saying that they died X amount of years ago, and they certainly do not cling to a book which discribes their life. Instead they need to (and are) interpreted. (fancy word for an educated guess, which fits what the interpreter wants, while best discribing the evidence present) what is importent though is that the same dead thing (aka fossil) can be interpreted entirely differently while still fitting the evidence. So why do I believe in God, because he has proven his existence to me in multiple ways. 1. He has helped me when I asked him for help. (God is love so he helps those that ask for his help) 2. The bible IS consitent with the evidence present. 3. I see no flaws in there being a God while there are MANY flaws of there not being a God.
Anyways what Part of the bible has been proven? Well a good deal of it. The stories and events could happen and there is lots of evidence for David and Solomon to have existed, there is a fair bit of evidence for Jesus to have existed. There is a lot of evidence for the tower of babel to have happened as the bible claims it did, there is evidence for a flood. Also God creating everything like he discribed is possible for God. Genetically it's also possible for all 6billion of us to descend from Adam and Eve. Also the bible helps us understand the world around us and it also allows us to make accurate predictions.

How many times we have to prove it again to you? Dead stuff can talk, all humans and some latest robots are the perfect example for this - we are all made of dead matter e.g. carbon and hydrogen. If you mean communication, then we can include nearly every lifeform on earth to it.

...and no. The Bible doesnt help us to understand the world around us, it is rather standing in our way - dark age, ignorance, fascism ect. Proof? You still believe in those fairy tales while we still debunked it millions of millions of times. As I said, we know certain details about your biblical god such as flood, creation and stories. They all turned out to be wrong in certain ways. Sure, the tower of babylon existed, but he was not built to reach heaven, but rather a structure to study our earth time we use today. Otherwise your god should smack down every skyscraper, 'cause they are much higher than the babylonian tower could ever be.
And your god helped you when you asked him? So why he helps you and not those who really need his help? Just because they dont pray? How selfish! Luckily prays dont work since there is no god. If you think that lucky accidents are proof of God, then you are dead wrong.

So ask me if you want me to share all of my reponses with you. Since I feel bad for "beating" you with arguments (against your will) all the time. Sorry to all that have had enough of me.

You know, I have seen many trolls, and I have to say you look like one, and if you want to see the evidence of evolutioin, go to the museums, and also look at the DNA which is a proof of natural selection which is a poing favor to evolution.

It's funny I realize now, because Stephen Hawking was referring to your Bible as the illusion of knowledge.
