Worbital is a real-time artillery strategy game, peppered with a heavy dose of cosmic chaos. Spun off from the turn-based Interplanetary, Worbital attempts to realize interplanetary war in real-time, emphasizing hype-filled gameplay and gravitational destruction. Each player commandeers a planet, building support structures and increasingly powerful weapons. The goal: be the last civilization standing! With the shifting gravity on your side, aim your cannons, blast your enemies and enjoy the fireworks! It is unshackled from the grounded and deliberate style of its predecessor, in favor of unrealistic fun.

It’s been a week since we launched the Worbital public beta, so it’s a good moment to add more spice to it. Today we put out our first beta update!

At the beta launch, there was a set building loadout for each of the factions. With this update we add more structures, so, naturally, we add the loadout editing feature as well. You can now customize your loadout in the Battle Kit menu before a match.

Each of the factions got several new structures to build, which include: new power plants, new support structures, guns and defenses. Also, some of the old and familiar buildings are now available to more factions. For instance, Orbit Boost is now available for Terrene as well as the Celestials.

  • Features
    • It's now possible to choose, edit and save Loadouts in the Battle Kit
    • Added new structures for each Faction
      • Terrene: Solar Plant, Big Shot, Autocannon, Orbit Boost
      • Lucid: Nuclear Plant, Big Shot, Fragmenter, Mining Probe
      • Celestials: Solar Plant, Defense Orbs, Homing Missile
  • Fixes
    • Nuclear Missiles and Steer Missiles can now be piloted until their destruction even after the player has lost all their planets
    • Autocannon can no longer be activated unless it has at least one full activation charge
    • Orbit Boost should no longer occasionally boost the planet in the wrong direction
    • Planet Anchor now applies its slow effect properly when hitting a structure
    • Queued games should no longer constantly get stuck during the loading screen
      • Games where a player disconnects during the loading screen may return the other players to the main menu instead of starting the game. A more permanent fix will be implemented in a future update.
  • Adjustments
    • Adjusted the movement and rotation speeds of moons and gas planets
    • Increased the amount of time it takes to automatically unlock Tier III
    • Increased Terrene and Celestial Refinery’s Funds generation at tech levels 1 and 2.
    • Increased the Lucid Refinery’s HP and adjusted the Funds generation to have less variance between different tech levels.
    • Decreased Laser’s HP and added a cooldown between activations
    • Decreased Colonizer’s, Evacuator’s and Terraformer’s HP
    • Decreased the uptime of Shield Defense
    • Moved some of Terrene Fragmenter’s damage from its fragments to the main projectile
    • Increased Defense Burster’s range and projectile size
    • Decreased Defense Burster’s damage and area of effect slightly
    • Autocannon now has a second charge at tech level 3
    • Evacuator now terraforms planets much faster
    • Decreased the uptime of Laser Blade
    • Increased Planet Anchor’s damage against structures
    • Increased Glacier’s freeze AoE at tech levels 1 and 2, but decreased its damage slightly

Overall, the beta has been going really great! Initially, we had humble expectations, but, to our surprise, we managed to gather over a thousand beta testers in the first week alone. Thanks to everyone who has joined and to everyone active on Discord. Worbital is already building up an active and friendly community, not to mention the useful feedback. We have already fixed some of the bugs and issues pointed out on Discord (see patches #1 & #2) and there are more fixes coming in this update.

We’re planning to put out another update soon. No major features, but we are adding a couple of real fun weapons. Hint: they will ram your mind away.
