Stratus: Battle for the sky is a unique, fast paced Real Time Strategy (RTS) game set in the fantasy world of Sonus where an ancient feud between the deities, known as Tempests, have torn the world apart leaving little more than raging storms below and skies filled with floating remnant of islands where the people of Sonus now live. The four factions of rain, wind, sun and thunder must battle to survive in this harsh climate gathering resources and gain favor from the Tempests.
Over the past year many thought project had died due to lack of updates, but the truth is far from that..
We used the pause in public posting to quietly focus on moving the project from Unity3D to the Unreal4 game engine and in that time we have implemented 76% of features we had working in Unity now working coded from scratch in Unreal4.
We have brought on a new coding team which is currently in the process of implementing C++ elements for the networking as we are readying to move forwards to the roll out of a multiplayer build of stratus under the new engine.
We have also used this time to work on creating assets for world map, gone are the boxy flat underside islands replaced with prefab islands modeled to match those of the old netstorm.. we have also added vegetation to the hanging islands. along with creating little windows on side of the islands that light up from time to time to give maps and islands a more rich environment.
Under the old unity build we constantly had issues with combat and how units attacked, from the ground up in unreal4 w have implemented a new system that allows for accurate updating of targets of players units and removal of destroyed enemy units so units function properly.

First look at newly created prefabricated island shapes brought into engine.
While updates have been slow we have been busy re-organizing the team and moving from Unity3D to Unreal4.

While Early access release may not be fully polished it will allow more people that have stated they would buy at Early Access to help support the project and get the funds together to finalize remaining two factions and last remaining art needed.
We look forwards to testers feedback on builds as we release updates moving forwards from Early access.
Not just looks good, but is quite a unique idea!
Also like this weird fantasy setting, quite different from the traditional ones.
Will some islands move, or will this be completely static?
clicked wrong Karma post about your question, meant to click the +
Islands are static generated in the in-game battle map but in the battle lobby layer have a little 3D replica of their home island that moves around the battle lobby.
Cool, on second thought, it would be quite hard to e.g. build on islands that constantly move - from a game control aspect, just thought I ask.
One more thing, a lot of people mentioned that the game looks nice, but one note (might be just me): The background (the thing under the buildings) is a little too simple, from the distance, (especially, when You look az the mini-images in the video sections) looks weird, like the background was only a grayish-blue, it is realistic, as from the fog, You don't see too much, but youre not enough high to be above the clouds - so I understand the concept, but You might just - like - cheat a little:)
E.g. Homeworld had these abstract weird backgrounds, which I don't think appear in space that often, but they looked good. :) at least better than just a black star-background.
It could have maybe abandoned old islands below, covered in gray fog (so it won't disturb the player), or maybe some other, floating stuff.
But - again - its maybe just me, I can imagine You've tried and maybe it didn't work/was too disturbing.
Still - once again - cool game, like the concept.

While we are continuing with reviewing names for the possible name change for DOTS to avoid issues with HOTS "heros of the storm" but in the mean time Storm Isle productions has put up a paypal donation wall with tracking meter and pledge wall of backers.
For this funding campaign we have set minimum 10k as goal to raise funds to finish up wind faction to have two playable factions in a first steam release and expand the art for the game..
While we were able to raise 40k on kickstarter even though we did not manage to raise the last 10k to reach the 50k goal to succeed the fact we raised 40k we feel shows there is public interest in a reboot of netstorm style gameplay and we can clear this smaller 10k funding goal and get Wind faction to a playable state and steam release.

We just got alerted by kickstarter the project has been selected as a staff pick project.
New Kickstarter campaign has just begun for DoTS and they have already raised over a grand in the first few hours. Hopefully they will make it through the full funding cycle this time.
