Congratulations! You have been elected Kaiser Earth. The people of Earth now rely on you to keep them safe from the dangers of space. Decide how you want to build your spacecraft, and attack any potential extra-solar threats; or maybe welcoming other galactic species to Earth might be a good idea? You are Kaiser Earth, you decide (at least for your term of office). Good luck. -Create custom ships from randomly generated modules -Protect Earth from threats, strategically command your ship in battles. -Play strategically or rely on your skill with two control modes to suit your style -Decide the intergalactic policies of Earth. -It’s up to you to ensure the Earth’s survival, prosperity or doom. Hi!
I've decided to release Kaiser Earth for free now (actually did so a little while ago). I don't have the free time/drive at the moment to release updates to KE and not sure when the next would be, if at all. So thought it was time to just let as many people play it by not charging for it.
Sorry if you've bought it recently, or at all, and begrudge my decision - if you do you can have any of my future games that cost anything for free [: just let me know.
Maybe can get back to working on it at sometime, would like to, but due to the scale (large for me!) not sure if it will happen. I was happy to release the game I wanted to, though maybe was a bit ambitious in some aspects in regards to what I could realistically make work really well. But I think it's cool in a lot of ways, maybe you will too [:
Hope you'll check out what I make next!
Thanks,
~Michael

I can't get the demo to run properly. When I start Kaiser Earth, the Unity logo shows briefly and then the screen goes black, and music starts to play. It responds to escape making a sound.
This is my terminal output when I run KaiserEarth_Linux.x86_64:
Set current directory to /home/ martijn/ Programs/ desura/ common/ kaiser-earth
Found path: /home/ martijn/ Programs/ desura/ common/kaiser-earth/ KaiserEarth_Linux.x86_64
Mono path[0] = '/home/ martijn/ Programs/ desura/ common/ kaiser-earth/ KaiserEarth_Linux_Data/ Managed'
Mono path[1] = '/home
Hmm when I test it on Ubuntu 13.04 I can't replicate that problem. Seems like it's playing but not displaying, as escape opens the options at the main menu. Maybe try forcing a different screen resolution (the Unity resolution pop-up doesn't function on Linux). Launching it from the terminal try-
./KaiserEarth_Linux.x86_64 -screen-width 1600 -screen-height 900
or some other screen dimensions and see if it shows, worth a try. I'll try work out what's causing the problem though and maybe put up a windowed Linux version to see if that helps.
p.s. You could also try changing the default quality through the terminal using the additional command:
-screen-quality good
and you try using simple/good/best there (think it defaults to best so try another)
How do you become a faction VIP? I'm at 106% with one arleady...
At 100% their unique blueprint should be unlocked. I don't think it should go over 100% though.. I'll look into that (:
I got to 116% before I ended my term. Not re-elected.
Can you please add seperate link buttons for cannon types? one for missile, one for torpedoes, one for mines, one for rockets, and keep the "all cannons" link. This would make the game much more enjoyable, as I wouldln't feel like I have to choose between a more convenient shoot all over kill attack, and a pause and tediously aim each of my 20 cannons at 6 different targets approach. I would be able to torpedo the large ship, rocket and/or missile at small ships, and launch mines at enemies closing in at a distance. I think this would immensely improve the experience, giving it a much more smooth motion.
I'll see if I can sort something out for the update I'm working on, which should be out soon. Maybe a 3-way toggle between no link, separate cannon types linked, and all cannons linked would work without adding too many more buttons, or maybe more buttons is simpler (: (The upcoming update will also introduce a new direct control style for faster paced play).
Thanks for the quick response! Maybe add a toggle in options to get rid of auto-centering whenever I have a module selected. Sometimes I am trying to aim at somethign far away, then my screen suddenly centers to the ship, making me have to scroll ovdr to see the target again.
No problem, and if I've understood you correctly, there should be a toggle there already at the bottom next to the weapon-link toggles that stops the auto-centering happening. Think it's labeled camera lock or something similar.
Thanks a lot, that's what I was looking for. The description was a little confusing, so I never bothered to look at it twice... go figure.
