LITE VERSION of the HL:S - Enhanced Shaders 2010 Mod! This is a for those who have trouble running the regular version at playable framerates. NOTE: This version disables SSAO and adjusts some quality settings to significantly improve performance. Still included are adaptive bloom, adaptive depth of field, per-pixel-lighting and color correction.

Im running an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT graphics card, and it lags. Any ways of making the game run faster?
I think you must be using the Ultimate version of the Enhanced Shaders mod if you are getting any slowdown. If so, you can try lowering some of your other settings (AA, resolution), or disabling the SSAO effect (most demaning), or using the Lite version of the mod instead.
If you are getting slowdown with the Lite version, there must be some other issue...

Um... this is probably the very best mod available for Half-Life source. If you read the instructions, you'll see it is ridiculously simple to install. Perhaps above your skill level?
