Absynthe's MOD version 0.1
created by me as something to gain experience with the Blood2 source
WHAT IT DOES:
Currently it does two things:
1) Added a custom setting to the detail selection in the Display menu.
If you are already using the High detail setting with no problems then don't bother with the Custom setting as it will not offer and additional perks. Its strictly there for those who are not happy with the Medium or Low detail settings.
What are these new settings for:
Most I think are self-explanatory, typically the higher the setting or the more things you turn on the more CPU intense the game is. Here are some descriptions of a few of the settings:
LightMap - If you need to turn this off you are hurting big time for a CPU upgrade. LightMap creates all the cool light effects that add mood to the map. LightMaps are pre-calculated to ensure maximum speed during gameplay.
DynamicLight - Lights that move, flicker, or can be turned off/on are considered dynamic lights. Unlike lights handled by the LightMap setting these lights are not pre-calculated and as such hit the CPU harder.
EnvironmentMap Enable - The most common use of this is to add a "shine" to the weapons you carry. Hold still for a second with the weapon of your choice and then slowly rotate. Notice how the light shifts across your weapon. That's what the setting is for. (It may also be used elsewhere in the game, such as the outside of the airship to create the nifty cloud shadow effects.)
PVWeapon and MasterPaletteMode are currently unknown. I know the game itself cared to distinguish these as being important when rendering the display but I haven't found any first hand experiences of them actually changing how something looks.
NOTE: After using these custom settings if you should disable my mod, Blood2 will default back to the HIGH detail setting. If you are using a resolution that is 320x400 or below not all of the custom settings will appear on the screen. As you press the down arrow past the last displayed item the settings list will scroll automatically.
2) Akimbo weapons now fire in a "John Woo" style. Specificly, the magnums and the flare guns fire alternately. The machine guns, however, remain unchanged as it wouldn't have looked right. The shotguns have been temporarily held back from alternating as they are a little trickier than expected to get working correctly.
WHAT IT WON'T WORK WITH:
There are some mods that will not work with mine, nor one another for that matter.
Limbloss
DarkAct
VooDoo
This is not in any way a fault of coding either by them or the folks at Monolith, its simply the nature of what happens when multiple mods try to replace the same internal file (in this case CShell.dll). The last one to load wins since "there can be only one." Now had Monolith gone with a scripting system this might have been avoidable, not to mention making the code portable BUT that decision has long since passed.
DISCLAIMER:
Though I've taken care to test this mod it comes to you unsupported. If it should crash your system, which I think unlikely, simply don't use my mod as there is little else I can do to troubleshoot it.
