Guess I better handle the traditional first question What role will you play in this team? -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |

I think I will be working with the maps. I havent released any "expert" maps but I have been pritty good since my last release. |

I'll take the unpopular traditional second, then. You do realise that anything 'Duke' is going to recieve an immediate cease and desist order? People have had them for map layouts, let alone actual representations of the character or setting... |

3DRealms are very (abnormally) protective over the Duke Nukem franchise. It's likely that when they discover the mod, they'll send it a Cease and Desist order; wherein they'll demand that the mod stops production, or distribution, whichever comes first. If you don't comply with their wishes, they can actually follow this up with full legal action, although I don't think it's ever gotten so far as for an actual suit to have happened. Yes, you have to ask for their permission - and you are using their stuff; you're using their intellectual property |

Even conversions of maps get C&D'd by 3DRealms, so don't think a full on TC would have better luck getting away. -- < insert subject games here >

I'll take the third unpopular stance (and my normal one): Why not make something original? There was a Duke mod being done on the Source engine YEARS ago by one guy (saw alot of it over at HL2World) who got C&D'd by 3D Realms for it. DNF will come one day. Just make something original... how hard is it? Sheesh. |

You barely know who the main character is and you want to make a mod about him? Am I the only one confused here? |
||

Unless there's official word to say otherwise, I reckon his name is Jim -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |

Am I the only person NOT waiting for Duke Nukem Forever to come? |
||
|
May 2 2008 Anchor | |
I don't see why you don't want it to come. Given how long 3D Realms have had to develop it, and given how kick arse the first trailer they released looked, there is a VERY high chance it could potentially be the best game of all time. Of course, they could have spent all this time totally fucking it up. |

Remember how STALKER was being developed for a long time and resulted in artistical "poop" ? Or Daikatana ? Perhaps 3D Realms will make me regret it, but I don't see that coming. Given that DNF will come out from the shack in the near future. |
||
May 2 2008 Anchor | ||
why does it mather if I know the character or not? |
||
|
May 2 2008 Anchor | |
STALKER promised alot and did end up being kinda shit. But did you actually see the trailer that was posted a few years back? Looked friggin awesome. Much cooler than anything STALKER ever showed.
Of course it matters. You want create a remake of the game. I'd have no confidence in a leader who was designing something and doesn't even know the main characters name. Edited by: Wraiyth |

Well 3drealms didn't allowed me to make a mod on duke3d. any ohter suggestion for a remake of a classic fps game? Edited by: noztrix |

You have have a point. But unfortunately, in the game industry what matters is the end-result. Examples? Relatively not-long-a-go Frontlines:FFOW was released. After the hype, great, amazingly looking screenshots and movies - the game rendered to be unplayable like in an early beta. Go to Kaos Community forums if You wish. It's filled with flame and hatred against Kaos for releasing such an unpolished game. Now none plays the game. It can happen with Duke. Most probably will - it's my opinion though. To noztrix : You need in-depth knowledge of the franchise You are going to recreate as a modification. It won't happen without it. Design process needs names, statistics, and lots of work to be as close as possible - or even be better - then the original games [ in this particular example ]. You can do whatever You want noztrix. It doesn't have to be Duke. Probably not worth getting shot by 3DRealms [ who where giving themselves piggyback rides instead of working, I wonder who is funding them anyway ]. That's how it is with modding. Main thing it has to be a fun and learning experience for You and Your team. |

You seriously think it's going to be that good? The development time is not from working for a decade on one product, it's because they scrapped it and restarted a few times. It's just another Duke title...
Come up with something original. I really don't understand why you are bent on remaking classic fpses when you don't appear to have even properly played through them before. -- LAMBDA WARS: WEBSITE | PROFILE | GREENLIGHT |

well Im not really creative and then its esier to make a remake of a old game instead. but If someone here is creative maybe they want to come up with some new ideas and we can work on that I know people dont want to have a dev- leader who is not creative thats why I dont have to be a leader:P Edited by: noztrix |
