Ubisoft have Splinter Cell though. I'll boycott, I mean, what games from EA are worth buying apart from Battlefield, which requires a beast of a card to play in the second outing? |

This is what happens in the gaming industry, for the most part. It's just like the large corporations of today. I'm not boycotting EA. They have some real nice games at their disposal, including Burnout, Oddworld, Medal of Honor, and a lot of sports titles that I myself play a lot of. Sorry, but I don't think I want to. It's like for me to boycott Microsoft, despite it running most of my computer. EDIT: Oh, and I doubt Ubisoft will be bought out. They have the backing of the French government, not to mention some blockbuster games under their belt (Tom Clancy license, Far Cry, America's Army, Brothers In Arms, Prince of Persia, and Star Wars: Episode 3). ..... EAGames + Valve teaming up? I say that's a plus! Hell no i wont be boycotting this... And besides, they are just PUBLISHING it... its not like EA is going to take over VALVe's development team... Edited by: Stallion001 |

I've said it before and I'll say it again. EA appeals too much to the kiddie market. If they made a game that's as good as their shooters, and added "realistic" blood and gore and whatnot, I'd buy every 'M' rated game from them because they have the EA pedigree. |

Wow, most of you took that boycotting thing way too seriously, and if you think EA is good for the industry I pity you. If they bought out Ubisoft, there would be less choices. Just look at madden, that's the only REAL football game you can buy right now, and it sucks compared with NFL2K5. They outbuy the competition, and That's not good for the industry, or for the modders. I'm trying to think of the last time EA came out with an Original Property. I'm having a hard time thinking of one. I don't understand what this "pedigree" that sticky referred too. EA's FPS are horrible. They completely ruined the series with frontline. The last great one was MOH:AA but that got outdone by CoD with the same people at that! Let's not even get started on the 007 series... |

I happened to like BF42, but if they had just added some good ol' blood and gore, and made it a "realistic" game, as it said on the box, then I wouldn't have probably given it away. |

The whole point of this thread, and continuing thoughts from the last, which bluewolf seems to have bumped up again, isn't that EA is being capatilistic, but monopolistic. Their own market is stagnating. They just keep making sequels of the same games or using someone else's IP. MOH, Madden, 007, Battlefield, The Godfather, the NFS series. Name one next gen game or even current gen game that EA is developing that isn't any of these. Then look at the tremendous opportunity they have to make a sequel |

EA killed Bullfrog Games...bastards. |

People let us not forget the most important thing this means for valve and all half-life games EA will only publish T rated games and hl 1 and 2 are both rated M so that means they will tone down a lot of things ! For example in HL 2 when Barney says "About that beer i owed you" he will now say "About that Chocolate milk shake i owed you" Edited by: hammy-bob -- Grammar is my worst enemy along with flying chairs.

Well, Obsydian, if you read the article they did about the merger at GameSpot, it appears that EA Games will only be doing the distributing of the games through the consoles. For the PC, it's going to be done through Steam. That means that there shouldn't be any worries about the modding capabilities (honestly, I don't think we'd even have to worry about that even if EA took control of the PC reigns as well, because VALVe is still the one controlling that aspect). And you also have to realize that the majority of the time, all the games coming through the industry are either licenses or sequels, because that's just good marketing strategy. You'd have to know much more about their economics to understand why they do things such as that. If you look at a game like KOTOR, it was a great game, despite it being based on the Star Wars license. Not to mention, the games you listed are not games that EA itself is building, but rather publishing. There are developers who are working on the games, you know. If you're so infuriated with EA, look to Japan, although you'll realize that even if they create so many original games, it doesn't mean they're good either, which is why the industry over there is in a little bit of a slump. But anyway, this wasn't a hostile takeover by EA in any way like EA did with the NFL license. Instead, it's more like them coming to an agreement for VALVe to get its funds to continue providing new games. In order for a game company to survive, it needs funds, so I'm not going to bash EA for a decision that they both agreed to. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

And they killed any attempt to resurrect Dungeon Keeper, as was seen by my Doom 3 mod, Dungeon Keeper Mod. I've been boycotting EA since that happened. Anytime i even consider a game I check if its stamped by EA. If it is, i won't touch it. Period. Edited by: dEaThMaStEr |

Populous.. Dungeon Keeper.. Syndicate! Great games, a shame they don't exist anymore. But I don't get your point. It was sure that smaller developers will gather under two or three big publishers. It's not like EA is forcing them to do it, it's a two-side, sealed contract right? I don't worry. They just make games, that's ok. They stop? It's OK too for me, let's move on, there'll be better games in the future. It's gamers who create the stock. Publishers follow the demands of the crowd. Same as with music, and we won't change that |

Too right they will. And then...someday, inadvertantly, they might stumble across this thread, and realize their game evilness. Only then will the golden era of gaming begin... |
