If you're using steam, Just copy Medieval2.exe and rename it kingdoms.exe

Computer/Programme Files/Steam/steamApps/Common/Medeival2.
then just right click the .exe file and copy the file to your desktop, make sure it is an acutal copy and not just a shortcut you have created, if so it should be about 8GB when you hover over it. doing this correctly, you should now have two copies of "Medieval 2.exe" on your desktop. rename the new one to "Kingdoms" or "Kingdoms.exe" hope this helps,
- Greg

Literally change the name of the file. Go to that file, click on it, do it again like a second later (not double click it) and see you can now change the name of the file from "Medieval 2.exe" to "Kingdoms.exe" like golverman52 said.

followed all of the instructions above, but no shortcut appeared on my desktop. Did I miss a step and go back and redo it, or is there a way I can run the mod without a desktop shortcut? Thanks!

I followed all the steps except I had to manually copy the extracted files from "20121109 - tlK - historic_event - quick fix.zip" into the "Medieval II Total War/mods/Last_Kingdom/data/text" because I couldn't extract directly to there. And I had to replace existing files with the same names. I'm getting the same message as others that Windows cannot find "kingdoms.exe". Please help.

The latest update of this mod, set up an incorrect folder structure for the instructions provided(In the context of a steam installation). If your mod folder structure contains Last_Kingdom.1->Last_Kingdom, simply remove the top level folder and as mentioned in other comments create a copy of medieval2.exe and rename it to kingdoms.

None of the below files appear when I extract the files from download

"Then launch mod installation by double-clicking onr « Last Kingdom 3.05.exe ». Do not worry about files « Last Kingdom 3.05.DO1 » and « Last Kingdom 3.05.DO2 ». By sure to install the mod into your repertory « Medieval II Total War »."

Is there an earlier version I can download as this is top of my must play list currently. I have spent several weeks trying to figure this out and have been successful with many other TWMed2 mods I have installed... thank you for any assistance.

This should be pinned on the main page. Not hidden away.

Installation instructions are very important and language needs to be cleared up for less confusion.
