//What is Doom 3: Retaliation?

D3:R is an overhaul mod for Doom 3 that tweaks the game's gallery of enemies, weapons, and missions. It also adds some new adversaries and weapons to spice things up. The mod also features many graphical changes, such as small changes to the particle effects, or overhauled lighting for some missions. The mod focuses on action and movement, but it still retains the dreary and lonely atmosphere that Doom 3 is known for.

//How does the mod change the experience?

D3:R changes the experience by completely overhauling enemy behavior and giving every single weapon some kind of utility. I have also overhauled combat encounters in the missions, to give seasoned players a new challenge. The mod also aims to improve the already excellent art style Doom 3 had, by changing up the lighting and textures of some locations and models.

//How are the weapons any different?

All the weapons in the mod have received some kind of retexture, since their original textures were quite flat and boring, not to mention their updated PDA descriptions. Every weapon has gotten a change to their behavior, such as the pistol now being a true semi-automatic, or the chaingun shooting blisteringly fast, or the shotgun having a sexy new model, thanks to Team Future. You'll even find some new weapons throughout the experience, such as the Shadow Autopistol, which hits like a truck and has a steady fire rate:

//How have the enemies been changed?

All the enemies in the mod have been changed to be more deadly, aggressive, and scary. All of the monsters have much higher health than before, and every single monster poses a threat to the player. All enemies have damage multipliers around the body, so dont be afraid to aim for the head. Doom 3 never had infighting, a sad reality due to the dynamic way you could make monsters fight and kill each other in ye olde Dooms, so I brought it back, if you play your cards right, you can make a fight easier by making the monsters hit each other. There is also a fair amount of new adversaries to fight, many of which I dont wanna spoil, but hey, you ever wanted to fight a z-sec grenadier ;)?

//What's so different about the maps?

Nearly every single enemy in every mission has been changed, some maps will feel like a gauntlet, but once you know what to do and what to use, you'll feel like an unstoppable killing machine. The maps have all gotten tweaked encounters, and have been balanced for the pacing, to make for a steady increase in difficulty. Oh, and have I mentioned the reworked lightning and skyboxes?

//What will you expect?

Doom 3: Retaliation is the culmination of over 2 years of hard work, every little detail has been fine-tuned and (mostly) every single problem has been fixed. This mod, first and foremost, was made to improve my personal experience of Doom 3, but I think that it's too much work to leave for myself, and I want everyone to enjoy (or not enjoy) an overhaul of Doom 3 that still keeps the game within it's bounds. The mod will be released within this week but a delay might be likely due to more changes being made.

The screenshots presented in news could be a bit brigther, because they are surounded by all the white background which makes them to dark in my opinion, at least on my display.
Also they could be clickable to enlarge, considering they are much higher res as they are displayed embeded in the news.

For sure, I have uploaded most of them in the mod's original page, and Doom 3 is known for being a dark game. I suggest maybe opening them in a new page or downloading them and viewing them in their exquisite 4k detail.

The final version hasnt been released yet, but the two older versions and a patch have been released, although they aren't as polished and are more or less a proof of concept.

This mod is amazing, i really like the changes and the increased difficulty.The only issue is that when two demons fight they cannot kill each other, so they continue forever until you decide to put them out of their misery.Also i noticed that some of the usable terminals are usable but pitch black.

Thanks for the feedback, for infighting, the demons can kill each other, but it takes a while since their health is substantially higher than the player’s, but their attacks are calibrated to deal damage against the player, so basically they’re dealing 50 damage to an enemy with 7000 health for example. It’s much quicker for enemies that dont have melee attacks. Also, for the black screen bug, it’s odd since when i tested out the game it only appeared on the non-interactive computers, but if it hinders your progress, then i’d like to know which computers dont work.

The game crashed with error:
ERROR: script/ai_monster_base.script(1571): Thread 'monster_demon_imp_35': Can't find function 'Torso_TurretAttack" in object "monster_demon_wraith"

How to fix it?? It happened when I was unreachable spot and the wraith was staring at me and almost instantly the game crashed.
