Valve for making such a great game.
Description of files contained in Pakage
---------------------------------------
Readme.txt - This file
halflife.dll - This is the actual plugin for QERadiant
halflife.qe4 - Sample project file
halflife.def - Half-Life entity list
breakwad.exe - Breaks large wads into smaller ones
IMPORTANT NOTE ON SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------------------------
Note that unless you plan to use breakwad to breakup halflife.wad into smaller wads (discussed later), you will
need at least 200 MB free disk space if you have less than 64 MB RAM. This is due to the number of textures in
halflife.wad. Even if you have more than 64 MB RAM, it is still recommended that you have 200 MB free disk space.
Install instructions
--------------------
Unzip this folder to C:\program file\QERadiant or whatever your Radiant directory is.
Setting up the plugin in QERadiant
----------------------------------
First, you must load the halflife.qe4 project file and change the directories if necessary.
In the texturepath field put the directory and filenames of the wads you want to use, separated
by a semi-colon. eg:
c:\sierra\half-life\valve\xeno.wad;c:\sierra\half-life\valve\liquids.wad;c:\sierra\half-life\valve\halflife.wad
Once you have loaded the new project, goto the Plugins menu and select refresh. Radiant will now load the wads
you have selected for use. Note that this may take several minutes if you are using halflife.wad. There is a way
around this loading time and it will be discussed later in the readme. Now all you have to do is start making your
level.
Using breakwad.exe to break halflife.wad into smaller wads
----------------------------------------------------------
breakwad.exe is a simple command line program written to break one large wad up into smaller ones for easier use.
It should be placed in your wad dir (usually c:\sierra\half-life\valve) and used like:
breakwad.exe [/breaks num] filename.wad
/breaks num Number of smaller wads to break up larger into. Not required. Default 5.
filename.wad Name of the wad. Make sure you use the .wad extension!
Eg.
breakwad /breaks 10 halflife.wad
Breaks halflife.wad up into 10 smaller wads, halflife0.wad - halflife9.wad
halflife0.wad contains the first tenth of the textures, halflife1.wad the second tenth and so on.
After you have broken them up, then up you can decide which ones to load by changing the project's texturepath
to the directory and filename of the wad(s) you would like, separating each wad by a semi-colon. You may have to
goto Plugins->refresh to make the plugin.
Once you have finished your map and are ready to do the final compile, change the wadfile back to the original or
people will not be able to play your map because the wad(s) will be listed wrong inside the BSP. This can be done most
easily by opening up the entity window, going to "worldspawn" and setting the "wad" field to the original wad. The plugin
will reset this field to the "texturepath" of the project everytime you load up radiant, so only do it before the final
compile.
Compiling the map
-----------------
First, copy the map compilation tools from worldcraft to your c:\sierra\half-life\valve\maps directory.
The included sample project has sample compilation menu items. They are in the bsp menu as normal.
Disabling the plugin
--------------------
For now, just move the halflife.dll from the /plugins directory to the /halflife directory.
Just move it back when you want to use the plugin again. The next version will have an
automatic Enable/Disable feature.
AHH! I NEEP HELP! WHO DO I E-MAIL?
----------------------------------
If you know that your problem is related to the editor and not the plugin (remember, the plugin deals with texture loading and map saving), then e-mail Robert Duffy raduff@cyberramp.net
If you think it is related to the plugin or you are not sure, e-mail Tom Nicholson, anozireth@yahoo.com and I
will determine what it is related to and if necessary, forward it to Robert.
Also, e-mail suggestions for further half-life support to Tom Nicholson, anozireth@yahoo.com
