Description

The George Romero Riptide Mod was made in honor of George Romero, considered to be the "Father of Zombie Movies". This mod aims to replicate the behaviour of the Romero zombies, which means that zombies are mostly slow and can only be killed by destroying the brain. There are also other optional features included in this mod to satisfy the cravings of Dead Island players. The Walking Dead comics and tv series and even the zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead are two very well loved horror entertainment that closely follow the Romero style of zombies.

Hey! I'm trying out this mod and liking it a lot so far. One thing that makes me a bit confused is the stuff you wrote in one of the readme files about being able to cut arms and legs off; you give instructions on how to turn the ability "on" again which is easy but why would anyone turn it off in the first place?

I'm glad you like the mod!

I just left the instructions there just in case somebody wanted to do it. By default of how I configured them, the slow "grab" zombies' arms and legs can't be normally cut because if you cut their arms or legs, they won't be able to get up or attack anymore because all they know to do is grab. You'll end up with "pet" zombies that follow you around, like Michionne in the Walking Dead. In order to not let this happen, I decided to disable chopping off the arms and legs of the "grab" zombies.

The slow zombies that can Hit can only have their arms cut off because they can still punch even with one hand and it won't result in the "pet zombie" situation.

The fast zombies are just fine, you can cut off their arms and legs by default because it's already too easy for them to gang up on someone, it would be too unfair if the player can't still somehow disable them.

So there, those are just my reasons as to why I left instructions there, so that people can change the way I originally designed the zombies to be if they feel like doing so. :D

First of great mod! Have been using it since v5 and it improves the game no end.
Ive just noticed though that this makes Purna's (haven't tried the other characters) Fury skill completely useless. Her fury skill auto aims for the center of the torso but this mod reduces all damage in that area to 1 point, so its impossible to do any damage with it. Its not that big of a deal because i don't even use Fury Skills. Just wondering if this was intentional?

Hi, I'm happy you like the mod! And yes, it's intentional that zombies can't be killed unless you destroy the head, just like in classic zombie movies. :D

Sorry. I didn't explain that very well. I understand that you need to destroy the head to kill them. That's one of the things i like about your mod. I meant the part about Purna's Fury skill being effectively disabled by the fact that now only does 1 point of damage per shot.

Ah yes, when a zombie gets hit anywhere else on his body, it only registers as 1 damage, no matter what was used to hit it, may it be a weapon or something else. :)

What I think he's trying to say is if there's any compensation to Purna's fury skill? It's basically useless because it does only one damagfe as it is now. Changing it to make it usefull would be good.

Maybe I'll go adjust some skills and zombies for V9 so that special skills that don't attack the head won't be useless as an extra option for people to play with :)

Sorry, although it would be great to see my mod on the PS3 or Xbox 360, I don't own a PS3 so I have no idea how to make a mod for the PS3 version.

I would just like to say Great Mod, It's a wonderful alternative way to enjoy the game.

I have always liked "The Walking Dead" and of course in that likeness the man who started it all, the good old "George A. Romero" style of slow muscle decaying, brain-dead zombies that can kill you with just one bite(due to later infection if not bleeding out first), with the obvious "kill the brain, kill the zombie" which is just "Zombie" to me ;).

So thank you for making one of my most favorite game's into a classic throwback keep up the good work!

One thing that would be awesome to see your mod with, is a way to increase the amount of zombie's so that their is crowds or "hoards" of them,...If its possible, it would be amazing (would probably take high performance PC to run it though lol)

Thanks for letting me know you are enjoying the mod! Yeah, it would be interesting to increase the zombies that spawn, unfortunately the only way that I know of to do that is pretty unstable and causes crashes at times. I'm actually on a 7 year old computer that only has 2 GB of RAM so I have a feeling if someone's gonna crash, it's gonna be me first lol! I'll go try and see if I can make a stable "more zombies" feature for V9 :D

Thank you very much! I think I found a "safe" configuration where the game won't crash and it still relies on easy to edit scripts instead of hex editing "exp" files (which is more troublesome to edit and might cause more game crashes).

The extra zombies feature will also be optional only, so that in case any player experiences crashes, they can easily remove it and be able to continue playing the game. There are just too many spawn locations in the game that it's hard to see where certain settings work and where it might cause a crash :o

I'm also going to limit it to around 20 zombies per mission spawn because any more than that would just result in a "Respawn" effect where if you wanted 100 zombies per spawn, they will only show up in group of twenties, so it would take five 20-zombie spawns to get rid of 100 zombies.

Hmm maybe I should just make the amount optional as well, there would be 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 versions because some players might actually like the idea of respawning groups of 20 zombies. :D

If you use guns the mod is great, but if you use meele weapons the zombies die easy as hell when you hit them in the head, seriusly you can just hit them once with your bare hands in the head and they die at once -_-

Weapons have been adjusted a bit. In V9, smaller and weaker weapons will rely on critical hit to destroy the brain. Without critical hit, it will take a few more hits to the head to kill a zombie. Bigger weapons like axes, heavy metallic objects, and blades that can stab will still destroy the zombie's brain right when aimed properly.

Coming up in George Romero Survival Horror Edition V9:

- Optional "Realistic Damage" feature. Smaller and weaker weapons, like crowbars, baseball bats, golf clubs, will have 25% chance to deal critical damage to a zombie's head in order to destroy it. Medium and average weapons like hammers and little knives will have 50% chance to cause critical damage. Bigger weapons like sledgehammers and swords have 75% chance of destroying the head right away. As always, 1 bullet to the head equals a dead zombie.

- Optional "More Zombies" feature.

- Improved "Matrix Mode" for more fun and action. Zombies can get thrown into the air when you attack them and you can jump to follow them around as you attack them in the air.

Bug Fixes:

- Zombies who "freeze" when using Zombies Can Grab feature have now been somewhat fixed. It still happens from time to time.

- Running zombies when using slow zombies feature have been fixed and are now slow just like the others.
