Plot: The characters thought they had escaped the terrors of Banoi and survived the apocalypse on a corrupted paradise. Their fate took a turn for the worse. The Dead Island heroes escaped in a helicopter to the safety of a military ship, but when a furious storm hits and the virus suddenly spreads throughout the crew, the nightmare starts all over again, leaving hope drowning in the rising tides.

Description

Standalone add-on that adds "Blades and Roses", "Exorcist", "Gunner's Island", "Lilliput", and "Slashers" mode in the Island Pack collection. This contains all the previous fixes and features of the mod for your convenience. The George Romero Riptide Mod was made in honor of George Romero, considered to be the "Father of Zombie Movies". This mod aims to replicate the behaviour of the Romero zombies, which means that zombies are mostly slow and can only be killed by destroying the brain. There are also other optional features included in this mod to satisfy the cravings of Dead Island players. The Walking Dead comics and tv series and even the zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead are two very well loved horror entertainment that closely follow the Romero style of zombies. Since the mod also aims to give the players a survival horror experience, the fighting system has been customized and you also have other optional choices to suit your needs, like being able to play with modern fast zombies

The mod was designed to stay as close as possible to the popular zombie lore where the only way to truly kill them is by destroying the brain. Only guns have the ability to kill a zombie right away with a single bullet to the head, while melee weapons have varying effectiveness. Only bullets will guarantee a headshot kill, while melee weapons targeted to the head will have to land critical damage to destroy the brain.

There are also numerous options for shops to suit your own survival horror experience such as shops that sell and don't sell weapons.

If you like shooting, try the new modes found in the Island Pack folder. You can actually turn the game into a real first person shooter where you fight humans and the occasional zombies alike. In those modes, the damage for guns have been adjusted to be closer to realism, and that means nobody is a bullet sponge, and of course zombies only still die by headshots.

Of course, since the features are customizable, you can also choose not to use "Realistic Damage", which will result in an easier gameplay experience where even brass knuckle punches can make a zombie's head explode right away. Fortunately, the "Easy Installation Paks" already provide pre-configured files for you to play with if you don't like tinkering much with all the customizable features.

Have fun :)

Hi, I'm glad you like the mod!

And yes, I have already attempted a "Hunger System" previously, but unfortunately that doesn't seem possible with scripting alone. I tried to reverse the effect of health regeneration by feeding it negative values, but it seems it can't be controlled by that method.

Thanks for the interest and have fun :D

They still die if you just hit them in the head once :(

Hi! Please make sure that you are not using any other mods first because other mods not part of the George Romero pack may cause this sort of problem

If you are using one of the "Easy Installation Paks", this shouldn't happen. To use an "Easy Installation Pak":

1. Extract the contents of DIR_RomeroModV9SHEmay29.rar.

2. Go to 00-EasyInstallationPak folder.

3. Pick what kind of Dead Island Riptide you want to experience (for example, DIR_RomeroModZCanHitV9.rar).

4. Go to the Dead Island Riptide\DI folder.

5. Paste DIR_RomeroModZCanHitV9.rar in there.

6. Make a back-up copy of your original Data0.pak

7. Extract DIR_RomeroModZCanHitV9.rar and it will replace the old Data0.pak with the new one with the features you chose.

If you prefer using the Folder Installation Method where you can mix and match the features of the mod, please do the following:

1. Make sure you are using the original Data0.pak in your Dead Island Riptide\DI folder and you are not using any other mods that are not part of the George Romero pack to avoid conflicts.

2. Go to My Documents\Riptide\out folder.

3. Create a folder called Data if you still don't have that.

4. Place DIR_RomeroModV9SHEmay29.rar inside the Data folder.

5. Extract DIR_RomeroModV9SHEmay29.rar inside Data folder.

6. You will see folders numbered 00 to 08 and a file called ZombiePresets.rar. The folders are:

00-EasyInstallationPak
01-ZombiesCanGrabOnly
02-ZombiesCanHit
03-ModernZombieFast
04-InventoryOptions
05-ShopOptions
06-NoHud
07-MoreZombies
08-RealisticDamage
BONUS-Althetic
BONUS-AmmoLoot
BONUS-IslandPack
BONUS-LevelChooser
Bonus-MatrixMode
BONUS-WarMachine

7. The first thing to do is right click on ZombiePresets.rar and click Extract Here. It will create a folder called presets, which contains very important files.

8. Next, pick the type of zombies that you want to play with. Let's choose zombies that can grab. Go inside 01-ZombiesCanGrabOnly folder.

9. Inside, decide the rate of exp that zombies will give. As an example, let's choose 2X exp to level up faster. Right click on ZombiesGrabOnly2XEXP.rar and choose copy.

10. Go back out to My Documents\Riptide\out\Data folder and paste ZombiesGrabOnly2XEXP.rar in there.

11. Make sure to pick something from the 08-RealisticDamage folder (for example, SurvivalistDamage.rar) and extract it to your Data folder. This is the feature that changes the fighting system in the game and prevents the one hit kills to the head even if you're using weak items.

Have fun and I hope this solves your problem :D

Oh, and just in case you overwrote your original Data0.pak a long time ago, I have a link to the original in the George Romero mod's Steam thread over here:

I hope I managed to solve your issue :D

Does this mean that I can break every bone in zombies body or cut all the limbs, long as they still have their head attached?

If it's so, praise the modder.

The cutting of limbs is also optional. In the way the game was originally programmed, zombies automatically die when they lose a leg or when they lose both arms and they fall down. If the game checks "Can this zombie still get up without both arms or without a leg?" and the answer is "No", then it causes the zombie to die. This is something that can't be fixed by scripting alone, and that's why the legs and arms are extremely hard to cut by default.

Of course, you can make the cutting of arms and legs easy again by following some instructions in the mod because almost everything is an optional feature. Have fun and thanks :D

Will this be compatible with either gloomy weather mod here on the nexus or the dead island helper tool? Looks very good and hope to try it soon.

Hi! I think the gloomy weather mod should be compatible because I never touched any of the weather files. I'm just not sure about Dead Island Helper because I've never used it before.

Thanks for the interest and have fun :D

Love the mod, I do have a request however. Could you make a new shop option? One that would have everything far over-priced and you would sell things for almost next to nothing?

WarShops almost feels too drastic.
Survivalist is cool, but at times would like to buy a deo-bomb or something since you can't find a blueprint for it.
Special is the one I went with for now but eventually the prices seem too easy to obtain and because of everything that the area is going through it just seems kind of odd.

Thats really my only beef, and a small beef at that, again, thanks for this wonderful mod :)

I'm happy you like the mod:D

I'll go see what I can do about your requested shop version. If I succeed in making it, you'll be able to find it in Add-On 4.

Thanks and have fun! :D

Yes, you can use the mod even without the zombie behavior changes. Everything is optional. Just pick which features you want, put them in the folder, and that's it! :D
