Black Dragon Studios will utilise existing video game and real-time rendering technologies to educate and entertain. The company intends to develop and provide recreational products, such as mass-market video games for established platforms as entertainment products alongside digital heritage and digital preservation ventures, collaborating with museums, universities and other educational institutions to allow an interactive exploration of historical artefacts and experiences. Our products will focus on fun, exciting, meaningful interaction and also education and information, assisted through innovative technology such as Virtual Reality devices and smartphone technology.

Black Dragon Studios is working on games for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The company has several planned games and a catalogue of intellectual property to construct them from. The company's first game is an arcade style science fiction shooting game, titled “You're Doomed”. This game is designed to be a fast paced, action orientated experience, with the central design philosophy of instant gratification. It is being designed so that the time between picking up a game controller and being in the action is only a few seconds.

The core team behind Black Dragon stem from academic and games industry backgrounds, with a combined history of over 20 years in academia teaching video game design and development, as well as research into how video gaming technology game be utilised in other industries, particularly in the digital preservation and display of heritage sites.

The company will continue with and expand upon its use of real-time game technologies through the creation of digital heritage experiences, where previously pre-rendered video footage or static real-world models would have been used. This change would allow users to directly interact and even play with elements of the exhibit, with the ultimate goal of the user learning and understanding something about the heritage in question (the topic of education would be unique to each exhibition).
