This is a conversion of LordJarhead's JSRS mod for Arma 3. Full replacement of all weapon audio, including stereo sound and nearly 2,000 new samples in total.
Update Version 1.5 - Too many changes, but in short:
- More layers, more variation -- up to nearly 2,000 samples from ~1,100. All sounds have been further refined, rebalanced or otherwise replaced. Nearly everything now has new unique sounds, with the exception of a handful of shotguns.
- More distant sound types, up from 5 with 2 samples on each layer to 12/4. Multiple AR and rifle variations, battle rifles, sniper rifles, SMGs, LMGs etc. Should make things more interesting and informative for the player.
- In general I think there's now enough variety and distinction that the player should have a good idea of what they're hearing at all ranges (once learned).
-------------------------------------------
All sounds in this pack are sourced from Dennis Kahl, aka 'LordJarhead' and his fantastic JSRS mod for Arma 3:
Jsrs-studios.com
Steamcommunity.com
- New sound for all weapons, stereo sounds for all 1st person (player) weapon audio.
- Full use of the sound layering/attenuation features. Every weapon uses eight layers—three unique to each weapon plus a further five for reverb effects, sonic cracks and distant sounds which are loosely based on calibre (e.g. pistol, intermediate, rifle, big stuff). Transition between the sound layers should (hopefully) be smooth.
Issues:
- Weapons upgraded to use silencers will use mono silencer sounds for the player (essentially the third-person/npc soundset). Not an issue I can fix.
- Update 3 seems to have introduced some strange AI behaviour. Depending on the weather, the combat AI will basically switch off after 300-500m. So all those distant sounds I included may not be heard as often as they should be. I'm not sure if this change was intentional (e.g. it's most apparent in foggy weather, clear weather works as expected).
- Those pesky mounted PK emplacements still use default sounds. This will eventually be fixed.
Highly recommended sound mods:
Soundscape Overhaul 2
EFT Aim Rattle
EFT Bullet Impact\Crack Sounds
And while it's obviously not compatible, it would be remiss of me not to mention Solarint's excellent JSRS Overhaul V3.0.
How does it compare to the Solarint's mod?
Definitely covers the same ground on paper, I guess the standout being that this uses stereo sounds for the player, which is a big jump in quality over mono.
But really the overall impression is pretty different, it's totally subjective. This is just another choice for those who want to try it - the more choices the better :)
Its better than JSRS
Did you manage to get the ai fx to work stereo too? I heard that was a limitation on the engine side
Sadly no, there's nothing I can do about that. Anything that isn't a player-only sound (and doesn't have to be attenuated) is stuck in mono unfortunately.
is this compatible with soundscape overhaul 2.0?
Yep, I'm using it! They change completely seperate files.
Tested it, sounds nice. I will probably be using it for some time now in my playthrough. The stereo sound is a big step up in quality.
Fantastic Work! This sounds amazing.
Fantastic mod!
So far I came across one weapon sound that was way too loud. It sounded like the dude was standing right next to me, even though the fight was far away (probably something to do with the sound layers?). Could not find out which weapon it was, though it was something semi-automatic and not a pistol by the looks of it.
Hope this helps :D
Cheers
When something's broken loud (like the sound file is just playing in your ear) it's usually a stereo file that's being used somewhere it's not supposed to be, but I checked through the files and couldn't find anything amiss. I'll have to go through the config and see if I can find something wrong in there.
Thanks for letting me know—it might take a while to find it though! If you run into the problem again see if you can find the bastard and tell me what gun he's using ;)
I guess you found our culprit then :P
cheers

The stereo sounds are, without a doubt, far superior than default. Thank you for sharing the hard work!
Any chance of including supersonic bullet cracks? Having played the Arma series for years, it's very strange not to hear any in the videos. Those supersonic cracks make the environment feel a lot more terrifying.
I totally agree there's something missing on that front. I've linked to a mod which has some in the desciption, but it's fairly limited as it only applies to rounds hitting in a small radius around the player.
The engine doesn't really support having the bullets themselves generate sound (the bullet whizz sounds are generated on impact only) so I'm just going to layer in the sonic cracks into individual weapons themselves by calibre and distance, as well as replacements for the 'whizz' effects we have now. Hopefully it works out.

I'm very happy to hear that you're developing this addon further. TERRIFIC news!
I'm VERY pleased to hear that you're going to incorporate supersonic bullet cracks into the updates.
I look forward to trying it out!!!
HELLO! The mod is just awesome! Thanks to the developers! I noticed a bug with shotguns. It’s not clear where it shoots, but it’s audible as if it were nearby
Howdy ho, I got a problem with the sounds:
FATAL ERROR
[error]Expression : wave&&wave;->length()
[error]Function : CSoundRender_Source::LoadWave
[error]File : SoundRender_Source_loader.cpp
[error]Line : 72
[error]Description : Can't open wave file:
[error]Arguments : y:/anomaly 1.5 beta 3.0\gamedata\sounds\weapons\_reverb\actor\big-silenced-reverb-1-1a.ogg
and no stacttrace, however I checked the folder where said file should be, there is none, any way to fix this?
Sorry about that.
I've uploaded a fixed version (1.01a) with the missing files which is currently waiting approval, hopefully shouldn't take long.
Edit - and just like that, it's up!
May I ask how you fixed it, I just took the basic sounds and copied and renamed them in a bit different order and it seems to work, since if you did basicly the same I won't bother to update, btw thanks for the fast response!
I just re-included some files that went missing. Assuming it was just the reverb for the silencers that I missed—you should be fine, it won't make a huge difference. But if you get any more crashes about missing files I'd redownload just to be safe.
Thanks for downloading.
is better with default anomaly sound?
love this mod so far, really satisfying sounds and gun battles can be heard over a looong distance
Great mod! One of the attenuated grenade sounds is kind of weird though, it's an incredibly loud "whoompf" with no reverb that sounds more like a pile of heavy fabric landing right next to me, that doesn't seem intentional.
It's really good but as often, I find that the sounds of the shots are not strong enough.
It should be slightly increased so that his "slap well" have ears ; )
Your bin folder is in the gamedata folder, it should be in the root Anomaly one, outside the gamedata
Hello,
What part of the file do you modify on these weapons ? :
w_mk14 / w_rpk / w_sr25
I ask this to make them compatible with the mod :
"Aim down sights tweaks"
Thank,
Can we hope for an upcoming update?
This sounds amazing! I can't play without
could you please check if one of the files from this mod is causing SVD Lynx to crash the game as soon as the upgrade tree is shown, making it impossible to install upgrades, normal SVD works good...
Would love to see this updated now the full release of 1.5.1 is out, much prefer this version!
I'd like to but it might take a little while. I had a version 2 in the works but that was well over a year ago and I've long forgotten what I was doing or what the process even was.
Just gonna have some fun with 1.5.1 for now and we'll see what happens!
Cheers
Yeah no worries! Thanks for the reply:)
