Doesn't require the DOOM game(s). All in one file. Simple extract and play install.
TL;DR: Somewhat of an unaffiliated "Brutal DOOM for Your Lazy Friends" "Lite" edition.
Bundled with free to share mods+levels (see credits). Free to play and enjoy! :)
[INTRODUCTION]
Welcome to Brutal FreeDOOM For Time Lackers, or BFFTL for short.
Don't have time to learn how to get Brutal DOOM set up? BFFTL is a quick solution. All you'll ever need to click is in the first folder. No more visiting 3 or 4 websites to play one game!
FreeDoom's maps are community made level-packs that this pack relies on. FreeDoom 1 is more in the style of DOOM 1/Ultimate DOOM. You can expect monsters to be modest-in-numbers, yet well placed to ruin your frolic through the corpses. FreeDoom 2 is more like DOOM 2's large groups of baddies. Good if you want to fight through armies.
(And the addon's URL typo is intentional. Don't want to break any links I've made.)
[HOW TO PLAY]
Folder's safe to extract anywhere.
1. Extract the archive.
2. Run the batch file you want to play.
3. Check to see that the controls and binds are set up to your liking.
4. Rip and tear to your heart's content.
Below is an example video of how fast this'll let you play.
[WHY DOES THIS PACK EXIST? WHO IS THIS FOR?]
BFFTL was originally made as a "Brutal DOOM for Dummies" sort of deal. This is intended to be a ready-to-go install with most of the setting up done for you. We all know that not everyone has the free time to learn how to properly set up DOOM mods. Had a friend who wanted to relive some nostalgia playing BD with their dad growing up, but never had the time to get around to setting things up or learning how. They never really got around to trying it, so I figured why waste the effort.
So then I posted it in a couple Discords. Then a Facebook group. Then I figured "why not share it with more people?" After some brief considering, then restructuring the archive a bit to declutter things, and lastly trying to make sense of the licencing, BFFTL was born!
[CREDITS]
All credit goes to the respective authors who made the individual pieces. All I've done is set them up in a pre-made ready to go folder with some batch files.
BFFTL contains the following community mods:
1. Mod: Brutal DOOM v21 Gold, by Sergeant_Mark_IV
2. Unofficial Patch: Brutal Doom v21 Expansion by BLOODWOLF333
3. Level Packs: FreeDoom (both 1 & 2), by the FreeDOOM team
4. Engine: LZDoom x32 (for Windows), by the ZDoom team

- Tweaked the readme and description a bit.
- Updated LZDoom to v3.87c.
v2.4 (June 27th, 2020)
- Updated LZDoom to v3.86a.
v2.3 (June 5th, 2020) (Not Save Compatible)
- Swapped from BD21.0.4 Patch to BD21.0.Z Patch, by Zodomaniac and BLOODWOLF333.
- Fixed shortcut names being numbered wrong.
Note: While it's harmless to continue using, Bloodwolf's discontinued his work on his bug fixes patch. I'm happy to say the project is not abandoned, and that Zodomaniac will be continuing development on it.
v2.2 (May 13th, 2020) (Not Save Compatible)
- Updated BD21.0.4 Patch to Update 05/06/2020.
- Renamed the shortcuts to be shorter.
Note: Both shortcuts now have a #1 in front of their shortcut names. This was accidental, and I'll try to remember to fix their next update. Feel free to fix it on your end. Also oops.
v2.1 (May 5th, 2020) (Not Save Compatible)
- Updated BD21.0.4 Patch to Update 05/03/2020.
- Made a small ReadMe for the archive, containing instructions and credits.
v2.0.2 (April 2nd, 2020) (Not Save Compatible)
- Updated LZDoom to v3.85.
- Included BD21.0.4 Patch, by BLOODWOLF333.
v2.0.1 (February 9th, 2020)
- Updated LZDoom to v3.84.
v2.0 (Nov 22nd, 2019)
- Swapped from GZDoom x64 to LZDoom x32.
Note: LZDoom allows better compatibility with Brutal DOOM than the newer versions of GZDoom does, and the swap to 32-bit engine will work better with older PCs. Don't worry, FreeDOOM won't get near 1GB of RAM, let alone 4GB.
v1.0.1 (Nov 10th, 2019)
- Fixed shortcuts not working.
v1.0 (Nov 10th, 2019)
- Initial release.

Awesome, thanks m8
It's the first time I'm playing Doom after many many years!
I forgot how much fun it was. And this is greatly improved.
This new version is not compatible with saves of the previous version.
Yeah, loading new mods on existing saves doesn't work on DOOM mods, to my knowledge. You can stop the game from loading with the unofficial patch though. Should load fine after that.
If you wanna keep your saves, try to see if this works:
1. Go to the "Engine and WADs" folder.
2. Open in Notepad whichever BAT file you were playing with.
3. Delete "-file bd21.0.4.pk3" from the BAT.
No problem. I had recently started a new episode anyway, so I only had to finish 2 levels.
Thanks again for uploading this ;)
Thank you, this saves time and also gives me an easy way to introduce folks to BD/Modded Doom in general. +1
