Money system: You get money for completed missions, And once you have enough money you can buy upgrades for your ship(cheat-able via the health,armor&money cheat code)
Rank system: You get money for completed missions, But only after some set missions you get promoted
while you need both money & the correct rank to buy certain upgrades for your ship
Example: After the training mission you get the rank "ensign", But you can't buy certain upgrades until you get promoted to lieutenant...
So what will it be?

Depends on how much storyline you guys plan
If the plan is a big storyline , i would prefer the money system and the rank system as part of the storyline.
If the plan is a lot of missions without a big story in between, i would prefer the rank system to add a piece of story to it
I'm just making it up as I go along
I originally got the idea by making a training mission...
I needed a story for the mission, So I thought it could be a Viper training course
And after you finish that course you become a pilot...And when you meet some requirements you get promoted etc.
So now the mission is finished, and you are promoted to Ensign, Which is the lowest rank for a pilot...
But maybe We'll think of a storyline, The mod will have about 15 missions in the end

@ topic: you have raptors... so why start as viper pilot?
a. i'd rather call it a mod
b.i think the viper has much more potential, but you will be able to fly a raptor on several occasions in the mod
Your story could start 3 months before the Cylon attack. The player start's as a recruit and goes through training (tutorial levels) then gets posted to Galactica. The next few level's are based around fighting small fry enemies, pirates and stuff. Then the Cylon attack comes around. The next set of missions are the best battles from the BSG series with the finale being the finding of earth.
