“Parallel” mod news, a status report from “Parallel mod team”

Posted by on

Welcome to the “Parallel” mod news, a status report from “Parallel mod team”.
This time we have prepared information about the game-play of the mod. Additionally, we`ve got interesting renders and WIP Screenshots.

Game-play:
The delay in development is caused by our decision to try the experimental game-play based on direction.
Gradually game becomes more and more similar to interactive film. But rest assured that all declared game-play elements will stay. It`s a horror-action, stealth-action, and a shooter.
We`re working on applying the game-play element called Quick Time Event.

Someone wrote: “A Quick Time Event QTE) is a method of gameplay used in video games. It allows for limited control of the game character at cinematic points in the game, and generally involves the player following onscreen prompts to press buttons. The name does not have any direct relationship to Apple's QuickTime software.

History
The earliest known example of the QTE is the gameplay of the original Dragon's Lair, released in 1983, and similar laserdisc video games. While not referred to as QTEs that term having been coined much later by Sega), in principle it was the same concept, and this can be seen as its origin. In Dragon's Lair, however, the game doesn't display the buttons or directions that need to be pressed like later games featuring quick time events; it is up to the player to figure them out from onscreen cues. Unlike more recent games, Dragon's Lair and similar games use QTEs for the entirety of the game rather than in certain scenes.
Nevertheless, it was Sega's Shenmue which has made the QTE into the well-recognized and increasingly popular gameplay mechanic that it is today. Since its release, several other games have included a QTE system or something similar. Some of the higher profile titles that focussed on such a system include Resident Evil 4, Fahrenheit, the God of War series, and Heavenly Sword.”

We already have progress, and shortly we`ll show how it works.
Live HUD system has already been completely integrated to the mod, now it`s being balanced.

Some new vehicles:
The Big Truck.

And a small fishing boat.

Trees.
One month ago we have started making models of trees.
Now you can look at the results.

Objects of the game world.
Certainly we work on architecture and models of the environment. You`ll see the expanded information about the game world in the next news issue.

Sys:
The target platform of our mod is the DX9 version of Crysis. We`re adjusting the mod in order to achieve beautiful graphics and good performance. The mod will be released with several versions of graphic configuration files for systems with different capability. As for now, it was tuned for video cards GF 8x (or analogue).

That’s all for now. We hope you enjoyed the information and thank you for reading this.

i don't play this game, but your models look great. the forest is a nice contrast to the tropical feel of crysis. the signs look great. it's a shame my 8600 gt can't play this game well..well enough for me to enjoy it, but yeah. nice work.

I shall say that in order to make a forest stand out alot, you should have a variety of colour in your forest if you're not having a variety of tree models.
I would personally probably have about 2-3 different trees each with 2-3 different styles (green, brown, and brown with leaves falling off etc).

It just gives the forest more life, however it will use up a little bit more in resources.

BTW: Good on you guys for recognizing one of the greatest adventure games of all time; Shenmue.

Looks amazingly good, pro work!

One thing I have to say is that the trees all look to be orientated in the same way, you see patterns very fast.

Some imageshack links don't work. Excellent models, but the mapping needs work.
