new update is coming soon, and i´ve got some news too

Hey guys,

i just want you to know that the new update is nearly finished.
i will upload it as soon as possible, and i will also add some new screens.
the major changes in this update are the Korriban textures, but i´ve also reworked some of the textures i´ve already finished, like the very glossy ones on dantooine.
Now, i first keep working on the planets and level textures. When i finished those planets textures, i will start to make completely new models and textures for every character you see in-game. I will start with the player-characters and the players party and then the NPCs.
but i will also remake the vanilla textures, and offer the option, to choose between the old and new models, because maybe new hd models will cause problems on old computers

Whats completely new is, that i will try to remake all the vids you can see in the game, that will be real hard work and will take lots of time, but i think it´s possible.
If you guys may want to have a forum, where you can write things, please say to me, what you want, and i will provide it to you.

Hello thunder3!

It would be nice to have a way to communicate with you direcly. I read this update of yours with big interest and I would like to offer you my advice/opinion: focus your work on HD textures first and only when you are ready with that, start with something new. I am telling you this because having many ambitious goals may end up having a negative effect instead of a boost of enthusiasm.

I suggest focusing on the graphical improvements and not to worry about improving the videos any time soon (or ever). While the idea of new videos is nice, I really don't mind the videos as they are and the in-game graphics are way more important in my opinion.

Re-Mastering the cut-scenes is quite time-intensive.
Even though it's an admirable goal.

I say concentrate on the textures. The Vids are a minor thing, and most of the cool scenes are rendered ingame anyway.

The cutscenes have always stood out to me as being grainier and just different from the in game stuff, so redoing the cutscenes is a definite must when a mod seeks to improve the look of a game. I suppose it's hard to know where to stop though - if you're too much of a perfectionist, you'll end up remaking the whole game in a modern engine a la Black Mesa - the fan remake of Half Life which was just released. And whilst it looks beautiful compared to the original, it's taken so long to be released that it's graphically out of date now - exactly the reason the mod was made in the first place ;-)
How do you intend to go about redoing the cutscenes? 3dsmax and Maya?

I await this with great interest as higher quality cutscenes would be of huge use to me as I'm making a Kotor Machinima.

now, i think im a kind of perfectionist, but i know, that the vids have to fit to the rest i create for the game i will make the vids with 3ds max, because thats the only program i own, and i know it really good and will just used the models i create for the gake to make those vids

I hope you don't take offence at the fact it's concerning a similar project by another modder, but are you familiar with the 'Visual Enhancement 2012' mod by xarwarz?

As far as I can see, aside from you also having further ambitions to make new models and cutscenes, he seems to share the same fundamental goals as you when it comes to the retextures.

I'm just wondering how you feel your textures differ from his. Is one of your projects more of a reimagining while the other is more faithful to the original textures? (only enhanced in quality)

i.e. Does one of you deviate more from the original textures than the other?

If you are going to attempt to remake the vids, my suggestion would be to look at brotherhood of shadow and see what Silveredge did to make them ingame videos, as opposed to rendered stuff, and then do the same thing for the the visions, etc... because it would just look much better than any vid would. Obviously things like bombing Taris, and other vids like that need to be .bik movies, but I'm sure you get my drift.

If you want a forum for communication, my suggestion would be to go to deadlystream.com and request a modder's account. The community is very supportive, and it is a great place to show off your work and talk wiht people.

Also, you may have heard of this mod Link= Lucasforums.com
it seems to be no longer in production, but I was wondering, how like that mod yours will end up being?

You've also expressed an interest in possibly doing TSL in the future, would the scope of the TSL version, be like the seemingly also dead, TSL Massive Improvement Mod?

the first mod for kotor ive never heard but the kotor 2 i know, and when i finished this mod with the fullrange of.improvemnts i can do, i will do.the same to tsl

Also, if you're going to be redoing the cutscenes, will you be making them fullscreen? (not letterboxed). And if you do this, will you also make it so that cinematic (game engine) cutscenes and dialogue's don't go letterboxed either? Currently when you talk to someone or a game engine cutscene plays, the top and bottom of the screen go inwards. Eliminating this would make everything consistent if you did the same for the cutscenes :)
