Today we update you personally about all of the changes that have been made over the last week: new launcher, and the first boss fight.

Hello everyone!

Oh, wait! What's this?! Is it a new launcher screen? Yes, yes it is.

For a long time, we've been using a bad filler version of the loading screen for Dungeons of Daggerhelm. We apologize for the lack of "pretty" in this area. So, our sprite designer Jacob set out to make the change. He modeled it primarily off of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim initial launcher (borderless image with highlighted buttons). It was a long, painstaking process (roughly 8 hours of work), but the code played nice for us and we did it!

Now comes the main event: the boss fight.

You might have remembered a few weeks back that we gradually released concept art and animations for the first boss:

Here is the completed version. (A little small, but size doesn't matter). He was finished a long time ago, but he wasn't added to the game because we wanted to have some sort of modeled AI design for him to add.

As of midnight, June 21st, the first boss was added to the game. Below are some screenshots of Jacob Giambalvo fighting the boss with the sorcerer.

Unfortunately, he died before serious damage was dealt to the Lava Golem boss. (sadface)

You might also notice that our screenshots are larger than normal. That's because we've scaled up the screen resolution from scale 3 to scale 4 (16 * 9 aspect ratio) to be able to see certain graphics more easily.

Thanks again everyone for following the game! We are this much closer towards pre-alpha v0.01.

One problem I see: don't use Terraria sprites.

We're not using Terraria sprites. Everything in these images was hand-drawn. Though the face does look similar. We will change it soon because it does appear to be too closely to Terraria's characters.

Don't forget to mention that Terraria uses sprites heavily "inspired" by old Final Fantasy battle chars ^-^' the creater of terraria just changed the legs a bit and gave them a nose ..

Our sprites are definitely inspired by Terraria. We are using two perspectives they do not, however: walking up and walking down. The sprites that were inspired by Terraria were altered in many different ways to make it our own (hair, shoes, dresses, capes, etc).

I nothing wrong with being inspired either by Final Fantasy or Terraria, both great games in their own unique ways! :) And yours look cool too!
Just wanted to mention this chain ;)
Final Fantasy -> Terraria -> Dungeons of Daggerhelm

I appreciate your kind words, DarkOnyx. However, we are still making adjustments to the sprites anyway so that the differences are more apparent. Hopefully they will remain as cool looking as before :)
