Welcome to the group =)
Currently we are still in the progress for waiting for more members but why should we stop there?
We should begin and get planning..

We should not aim too big until we have a start so what we should do is this;

Have three maps/missions within our campaign for a start, one representing the beginning, middle and the end of the civil war.

American Civil War
April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865

My initial ideas would be for the first map to focus on April 12, 1861 when confederate forces attacked a U.S. military installation at Fort Summer In South Carolina marking the first engagement of the war.

Secondly I would then think that after the confederate victory we could have the Battle of Gettysburg which was the turning point of the war where on July 1-3 1863 in Adams County, Pennsylvania the Union won over the confederate forces starting the defeat of the Confederacy

Thirdly we could do the battle of Columbus which arguably is the final battle of the civil war in 1865 in Columbus in Georgia; however the last ever actual major clash between the two sides were the
Battle of Palmito Ranch on May 12-14 1865 in Cameron County,Texas; however The Battle of Columbus would be more known and appropriate as it is dated in history as the last actual battle of the war to end the confederacy with the Union victory.

Now these are my three ideas of what battles we should have to make the beginning, middle and the end of the game (and providing we finish these three battles then there is always room to add more)

Now please will everyone start sharing their thoughts below and we can discuss and choose what we are going to do in terms of the battles within this game :)

Cheers

All sound good, especially the Gettysburg one. Can't study the Civil war without it. Although shouldn't there be a Confederate Campaign? Or will we skip out on that?

That is an idea, For now we should focus on getting the three maps to battle on before we make further maps and campaigns so we have something to test on. The battle at fort summer will probably I think be from a confederate perception whilst the battle of Gettysburg from a union perception etc..We have quite a bit of official planning to make on what we are to aim to achieve but In the longer run I think we could have a campaign for both sides which will be more popular to the community.

Any other battles you can think of? or any other ideas :) ?

For the Grey (the confederates, call the union blue for shortness's sake), I can think of the Battle of Cold Harbor. For a Multiplayer battle, the Battle of Antietam. This was the first major battle in Robert E. Lee's first invasion of the Union. Both sides had huge casualties. Perfect for an MP battle. xD For the Union Campaign, the last battle Robert E. Lee fought, the Battle of Appomattox Court House, where Lee surrenders.

Those are some EXCELLENT ideas! :D ..

So far we have as options:

. The battle of Fort Summers April 12, 1861 In South Carolina
. The Battle of Antietam: September 17, 1862 Maryland
. The battle of Gettysburg July 1-3 1863 In Adams County Pennsylvania
. The battle of Cold Harbour May 31 to June 12, 1864 In Virginia
. The Battle of Appomattox Court House April 9, 1865 Virginia
. The Battle of Palmito Ranch on May 12-14 1865 in Cameron County,Texas

These maps could either be single-player, multi-player or both :D
But those are the 6 ideas we have so far as possible battles that makes partly a story to show the rise and fall of the Confederacy as the Union wins....

What you all think ? .. I like the ideas so far

Been talking to Multimarcus111 and basically so far the 6 battle ideas listed above are appropriate and will now be considered more as our primary ideas (may change them at a later date) We will keep this mod historically detailed but the missions will not go into too much details as we will keep it very basic .. with some dialogue at the start of the battles with some objectives to keep it simple. :) ..

The main focus of this game will be for a multi-player experience (though the short campaign will play an important part equally), being online it gives the players a more lasting and longer gaming experiences.
We will include several different known regiments from both sides.. including cavalry troopers and artillery. We will also include the United States Coloured troops along with various other elements....

We need ideally a skinner to start the work as we will be dependant upon that, but for the campaign I think an optional tutorial should be included to get people able to get used to the new game play experiance that this mod will offer.

Good idea. A few "hero" units for the assault squad version might be General Lee's army and General McClellan/General Custard's army. It might be pretty simple for the tutorial, since the civil war broken down into it's simplest parts is a war of attrition, or battles are won and lost based on how many soldiers you have.

I have just posted up a new group page based on a list of weapons (more to be added later) that will be created and textured to use within this modification ..

Be sure to go check it out and shortly moddelers will be given a list of guns to design that they must also provide proof in images that they created it just like TheSoldier provided for the Henry Rifle that he was kind enough to make.
Texturers will probably be given the weapons afterwards to add more texture too.
