This is the vintage Day of Defeat mod, before it went retail and the development team joined Valve. The next version after 3.1 was 1.0 (Retail), and much was changed.
- In-Game Cut Scenes
- Para Maps
- No British Class
- Bleed-Out System
- Much More!
Relive the good ol' days of the DoD mod and join it's growing community. Now Steam Compatible!
Day of Defeat (a.k.a. DoD) is the latest online action experience from Valve, makers of Half-Life and Counter-Strike. Stationed in the heart of WWII's European Theater of Operations, players join the ranks of an elite military squad entrenched in battle. Each team has several "player classes," that give each squad member a unique role. These include scout, infantry, sergeant, machine gunner, and more, each with a unique arsenal of historical weaponry at their disposal. Day of Defeat includes an expansive collection of missions based on key historical battles. And a near infinite number of additional missions, created by the online development community, are available for download. As war rages, squads must battle as a unit.

Not sure I'd want to play the older version, after getting use to 1.3. =)
hmmm i get a nasty error when i attempt to join a server "Steam Validation rejected" not sure what its about \:
I'm sure it's useful to the purists out there, but I quit playing DoD aaages ago when every server started filling up with ******** who'd gotten banned from Battlefield 1942.
Day of Defeat Source is gradually becoming unplayable as well, what with the god damn orange maps.
But I've spent many happy years with this game, so it's all good.
i cant hardly even find those dumb orange maps anymore :(
Really? 'Cuz I can find at least 7 or 8 at any given moment in my area (i.e. within 100 ping of me.)
Why should I play 3.1 and not the Retail? Oo
Because Retail costs money
It costs FIVE DOLLARS. And if you still have an old pre-Steam copy of HL1 you can put the CD key in and get DoD retail FOR FREE.
Jeez.
I don't have credit card ^^
Install to:
C:/Program files/Steam/steamapps/steamusername/half-life
Then restart Steam and you should be good to go.
This, is brilliant. Just as I was wanting to get back into old DoD too!
Thanks a heap
