Post news Report RSS Codemasters pulls the plug

After only 3 years Codemasters has pulled the plug on the multiplayer servers for Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising.

For the game faithful this comes as no surprise, but Codemasters has decided to terminate their quazal servers leaving fans of Dragon Rising searching for a replacement for their multiplayer games. While at first this seems like it could be the end of the line for Dragon Rising's multiplayer, the people over at the OFDR Community forums do have a solution and it's easier than you might think.

Many of us have been able to enjoy online matches simply by sharing the host ip address with all of the match participants. The process is really simple and has existed the entire time, but most players remain entirely unaware of the solution.

To make this work, the player that hosts the session can simply obtain their ip address from one of many websites that give you your ip. Here are a couple:
Whatsmyip.org

Whatismyip.com

Once you have your ip address, share it with all of the players you are going to have in the match.
Start up your game and select multiplayer from the menu.
Select LAN
For the host, you must simply create a server for the match. Once you have done that, the other players can join your server and will appear in the lobby after doing so.
For the clients, go to the ip address menu selection and enter the ip address that the host gave you. Press enter and if the server is set up as described above, you should connect and enter the game lobby awaiting the start of the game.

It's as simple as that!

While Codemasters has been less than accomodating to the fans of Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, there is still a pretty active community that has taken refuge on sites like this and a new forum was created by Saint Axe & Ror with a developing wiki and plenty of people ready to play and discuss the game.
You can view the new forums at this link:

Even though the developer wrote it off and many gamers did as well, this game is still an excellent game with a great group of people constantly trying to push the game to new heights. If you enjoy OFDR, stop by and become part of the effort!!

The only downside as to doing it as a LAN server is other players will get a high latency.
An easy solution is to simply do the usual, do a VS (Virtual Server) using hamachi or something along those lines.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports about that. It is true though, is there a lot of options out there in regards to virtual servers. The main point is that all is not lost.

I challenge modders to make dragon rising better. (soldiers should be able to jump, vehicle cockpit-view control, vehicles doesn't get stuck on small stones and such)

You should drop by the community forums and see what we have been able to do with the game. CM was less than accomodating to the community, but we've still managed to accomplish quite a bit with what we have. Here's a link > Sar.n1bus.eu
