You should become familiar with or not complain later.

Posted by on

As the mod progresses it is becoming clear to Jedjtl and myself that it might be helpful if future players of the mod were already familiar with the lore of both the books and the show. Most of you probably already are but there will be some elements from both that are not the same from the show and books that will be used in the mod. I know there will probably be just show fans or just book fans that will complain if something happens in the mod that didn't happen in the show but did happen in the books and vice versa. So I am pointing this out and giving you some links to purchase the books and the show below so I have the right to say, "told you so" and to help support the series that inspired our mod.

First the books, and George R.R. Martin's own site is a good place to look as it not only has it where you can look at several purchase links, but also some general guide books and histories of Westeros for those who are interested but don't have the time to read through the entire series.

I myself prefer Amazon and they sell the entire collection for Kindle which has been helpful in taking notes on my computer for story ideas.

As for the show for now I will give you Amazon links but it shouldn't be hard to find elsewhere.

You could consider implementing a "book" system similar to Skyrim's, with information for events like Robert's Rebellion, The Dance Of the Dragons, the Targaryen bloodline, stories like the tale of the Night's King, the Rat Cook, the 79 sentinels, etc. The arrival of Martin's "The World of Ice and Fire" would help tremendously with this, I imagine (it comes to stores sometime in October).

Maybe custom books as well, that are essential to the storyline (eg. Information about the Great Other)

Great idea yes, you could justify the existence of the books by pretending they were written by Maesters !
