Hyrule Conquest now has Battalions. If you like Battle for Middle Earth you have some idea of what to expect!

Posted by on

For fans of Battle for Middle Earth, Exodarion and I have a nice surprise to bring you:

Courtesy of Exodarion, Hyrule Conquest now features a battalion system similar to that of the BFME series. Most soldiers will now train in groups instead of a single unit, and that group will stick and operate together. Over the next few weeks we'll be fleshing out the system more so stay tuned for more features. Also stay tuned for the Hylian overhaul!

Interesting... so like in bfme certain factions will have naturally large battalions? Are you going to change it so the gohma lay egg clusters or is like two dozen giant bugs going to burst from a single egg? And by that logic I suppose the Dark Nuts are only going to come in groups of three and five?

thats pretty nice, its gonna help with certain factions that are a little painful to play right now.

I think Exodarion was being cheeky since the idea is inspired by BFME2.

Hell yeah! I've been hoping for this since the start! Battalions/Hordes are a great way to preserve a larger scale of combat for the setting like it had been with Total War, while still keeping things paced smoothly.

My only 'gripe' so far with the animations is with the archers. Them firing in perfect sync feels a little off. It might just be me, but having a small delay between each individual archer in the battalion firing would make it feel more natural. It's something you can notice in BFME, as an example.

Though I understand it's a WIP, of course!

only recently started playing the mod, but i think the battalion system seems the way to go. and Exodarion's animations for units coming out of buildings looks awesome. One question i have is about the unit upgrades, so is it possible to train lower version of that unit even once i upgrade the unit or are all units from that point upgraded? maybe its just me but i like more variation in unit styles so being able to have say "tier 1" hyrule spearmen, alongside "tier 3" as an example. i admit its purely a visual preference of mine and i can understand it must be a pain to programme that in.
