The latest art update from our art team regarding development of zombies.

Posted by realmsource on May 21st, 2013

Crazy times make the whole development team work harder than ever! We were silent for a while working on a completely new and awesome terrain generation algorithm and vegetation pack. Smooth and more realistic terrain is already available to push your realms to a new visual quality level! There was a bit more work to do than planned but it was worth the effort. Stay tuned and get ready for the NPC and Combat update!

Meanwhile, our Art Director Yaroslav (aka ArmedBee) has prepared a new update about humanoid NPCs in Realm Explorer:

Thank you very much for your massive feedback on the Rat video. We created a RAT and it was extremely important as many of you noticed  The epic soundtrack made that small video too serious. But wasn't it fun?

Allow me to introduce something more interesting and complicated. Its name is "Zombie Warrior”!

Gnostaria fans should be familiar with this creature as it was made and announced more than a year ago. We exported the zombie into the Unity engine and performed texture updates and materials enhancements. This is why in Realm Explorer our zombie looks better and has much better performance.

Zombies live on the surface. Awakening in the evening, they begin looking for something to eat. Luckily, zombies appear only near graveyards and dead areas, which are far away from player cities and villages. Only well equipped and brave explorers will be able to defeat such dangerous enemies. The best way to kill them is by gathering a strong mobile group of players and attacking with a strategy.

This is our goal for the default realm configuration. By running your own realm, you will be able to:

Make players look like zombies
Make zombies quest givers or traders.

The only limit to your creativity is our universe and setting!

Realm Explorer will have an "advanced fighting system” as we call it inside our team. This means that when fighting an opponent you are not just going to reduce their HP. We have done a number of chop off injuries every creature might have. One sword swing could cut an arm or a leg of the opponent in case your sword stats are enough to pass through the opponent's armor. Moreover, an injured mob or a player character with an open wound will continue to lose HP until it is fixed. Of course a zombie won't be able to carry their sword without hands. But zombies never give up!

We are looking forward to your comments and ideas about our limb cut-off system. Our next art update will cover character customization and the process of making it happen!

Good jobb! =)
Will you add variants of the zombies so that everyone doesn't look alike?

Aside from having their body parts able to be chopped off many NPCs (this undead creature included) also have other customizable parts. For example, the creature featured in this article has some customizable armor pieces and his hair can also be changed.

Short answer: Yes!

But if I want to build my castle on a graveyard or dead area I can just do that right?

Looking good, if you keep the armors, ambients and the whole low fantasy-themed like the game is looking right now this game will be awesome! keep on doing like this!

Cheers.

Edit: One more thing, where is this RAT video? thanks.

I've seen something like this in Kenshi so I am DEFINITELY looking forward to seeing it in Realm Explorer :D

I think you guys should play Binary Domain... If you shoot a robot's shoulder or focus on its arm, eventually that specific arm will be destroyed or just fall to the ground.

Many times the bots would grab the arms of fallen comrades to bludgeon you with xD

Long story short: I am SO getting this game!
