How things have been for SOTE, since I last updated the thread.

Posted by on

This is just a short update, about the mod. Its been some time since I updated this thread, and with most of the work in the pending tray, the mod still looks like it will be some months off before it can be completed. We have worked on this mod for over 3 years, and its been a gradual progression, between on set of idea's and meshes we could use for the mod and another.

Everything is finally fitting together, and forming into what will become the final versions of the mod. My plan has always been not to produce several mods - to you the public, but to produce ONE mod, that will not need updates. If it turns out there needs to be patches of course I will get them done. Over the past few months, the team have been busy with their lives, (University,Work) ETC, and me just trying to balance my admin duties on some of the EAW Modding sites, with modding, and my life in the real world too. (Family, work etc).

Things left to do for this mod:1) Complete the story mode missions that you will run through GC mode.

2) Complete rigging on certain meshes that need to be done to replace some of the older space units that I don't think suited the mod.

3) Re hash the skirmish mode, tactical space battles, and improve AI further. (AI in sote is already pretty good) but could be made better.

4) Complete and finalise ground maps. I was re working a few of them with newer props.

5) create game manual - so you know what is new, what is in the game etc.6) further bug testing and removal of bugs we find in testing.

We added new and more unique abilities to many space units and ground units, this in addition to new ground units, and tactical camera. Larger armies, larger battles, larger maps,. We added lots of new props, and building types, not to mention real time building, in tactical space and land battles. Units are split into, and designed into groups of different strengths and weaknesses, some are good for certain jobs, while others are weak for the job.

Its up to you to best build, and mix your units up to find your best combinations of tactics to defeat your foe. You are after all playing an RTS, and it should never be that easy to just use any old thing to win the game. With all this in mind I am confident SOTE, will be enjoyable to play, it might not be seen in ModDB's top 100, but then, not a lot of people really know what this mod is about, let alone see it. With that, and the fact we re did the GUI (its not the one you see in our video of vader unleashed) I am sure you will like what we have done. All you need to expect is a few more months of development, and it will be ready to play for all. I some times read comments like "Is this mod dead" ? NO ! of course it isn't.

What is SOTE ? - This mod is a mod for Star Wars Empire AT War : Forces of Corruption. Its set right after the events of Episode IV - begins with 'Revenge of the Empire' and continues on from there, pursing the Rebellion through the time line of the Empires Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, it will include stories from these era's including Shadow of the Empire. By the end of the game, you will be in the New Republic era, where you will finally confront Admiral Thrawn. Of course this is depending which side you choose. Depends on what game you play. Each faction will have its 'own side of the war' story missions to play through.

Thanks very much for the update, JC. I personally appreciate it and it's nice to know where you guys are. The work you have put into this mod will be thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed. Also, I didn't know I'd get to play as Thrawn. *Rubs hands together eagerly* :-)

Thanks to you all I really appreciate the support, its been difficult trying to find time to work on the mod lately, but with Christmas out of the way, we should ready to go. Some of my team are at University too, or work, but still look forward to working more on the mod this year. Some of things I never mentioned in that update, was the fact we have features like a maintenance system working in the mod, as well as orbital bombardment from the galactic map - not just ground battles. - We can't wait for people to try that out :)

Very nice, but I think bugfixing patches (and thus more than one mod version) are inevitable for any mod without really, really, really extensive beta-testing.

BTW: etc. is not an acronym, it's an abbreviation, so it doesn't need to be in caps. Etc. in caps makes reading awkward.

I already stated the intentions for the mod. There won't be other versions released of the mod. It will be released as SOTE V.1.0 that's it. Bug fixes will be made if they are needed. I do indeed have a very good beta testing group, and have been helping to find and report bugs for the past three years of the mod's development. Yes the testing usually does get very intensive, and extensive.

Well I am not looking for tuition on my English language skills, and this is not the forum for such things, comments welcome on the mod by all means though.
